As the song says, you pick your own poison: drugs are an obvious one, but the song also features material wealth and glory and wanderlust and religion as poisons that people use to get away. It's not about the drugs themselves, but about running away from pain to attain happiness.

This is my all-time favourite song. Sammet will NEVER  top this. Spectres and The Cross and You came close, but nothing will top the eight minutes of love and strength Runaway Train does.

Yes. Avantasia is a rock opera project and not a band. So we get new faces all the time, so every song will be different.
Runaway Train was a RIDE the entire way, because once you got used to the sound, suddenly it all changed. I love it.

"Time to pick your poison" is probably one the best things that a song has told me.

Dunno if rogue is what i really want to represent. But, when i think in what the song tries to say, it takes a lot of sense.
I mean, there are so many options in life, but everything will lead, in someway, to the same.
But, there are some of us that don't want it that way, so we are constantly running and taking trains, being this some kind of poisonus decision also.
It's fun, it makes you think :)

Bob Catley's part is one of the strongets moments in any Avantasia album, IMO.
