Atlanta Rhythm Section - Silent Treatment Lyrics

I was drinkin' in a loud Hot'Lanta honky tonk
When I saw her standin' in the crowd alone
I can't forget the night I met that quiet woman
Somethin' about her sure did turn me on
But she gave me the silent treatment all night long

I started once or twice to strike up a conversation
I gave it my best shot but I struck out
She never said a word 'til I started leavin'
And then she said
"Stick around boy and you'll find out
What this silent treatment is all about"

You see some things are better left unspoken
Some things are best said silently
And it was so beautiful what she said to me

Just goes to show that you can't go on first impressions
Quietly she showed me I was wrong
I really learned a lot, it was a revelation
The night that quiet woman took me home
And gave me that silent treatment all night long

  15. J.... K....

Great band! My first concert ever with Mother's Finest opening.

  16. J.... ....

Okay sure, too many greats to pick a "best ever" southern guitar player. but you ever see a list w/o Barry Bailey's name included it's not to be taken seriously. Seriously.

  17. e.... f....

All three of the aforementioned are greats in their own right.

  18. R.... M....

Check out the harmonica riff at 3:22... Dam they were so good! Some of my all time go to music!! Love the ARS Rick (MoonDogRecords unc..)

  19. B.... B....

Why these guys are so good and what sets them apart from the Allmans or Skynard is that these guys didn't jam as much: this stuff could have been played from the charts.  Nearly each song was the same day-in and day-out, there was no guesswork, no wondering what was going to happen next, and, it goes without saying, the talent level was unbeatable. So, go ahead, listen to Freebird and have your cerebral orgasm, I'll stick with ARS.

    B.... B....

I was just thinkin the same, all good authentic rock.

    B.... B....

Bill Branch really? A studio musician could duplicate that guitar play? Doubtful. You obviously never heard them live.

    B.... B....

Bill Branch did you ever see them live? Granted they are a tight band. Play very very well. But they also kicked my ass every time i saw them live. Tremendous band, so talented.

    B.... B....

I love ARS, but don't agree that Skynyrd jammed all that much - watch the Knebworth concert (where they blew the Stones off the stage) and most of their tunes are pretty solidly how they wrote them, maybe a little extra solo here or there but especially when Gary and Allen start playing those synchronized intros and stuff they are solid. ABs definitely jammed a lot, that was what they were all about. And you gotta admit, Paul's bass solo on Another Man's Woman on Red Tape is one of the all time greatest "jams" ever!

  20. G.... C....

    best band forever

  21. L.... L....

Interesting that the title track, "Dog Days", has been pulled from YT, probably for its publishing. Of all ARS's songs, this is the one that truly showcased the band's songwriting and arranging, producing a Southern Rock anthem that stands alongside the best of the genre. I sure hope that some worthy artist has licensed this for release, because it's a gem that should have been shined up long ago. Who could you imagine covering this, and doing it justice? Just curious of your opinions.

    L.... L....

    Lance Leslie Blackberry Smoke

    L.... L....

yeah i seen that. that's weird.

  22. B.... V....

Could almost have been Lynyrd or old 38 Special. Great song.

  23. J.... ....

    Bailey & Hammond.
Maybe - maybe - not there w/ Kossoff & Rodgers but certainly betters Page & Plant ...

  24. J.... D....

  25. L.... A....

  28. d.... ....

ARS was a great band. I always liked this song and Angel much better than their overplayed hits. Saw this band in 1975 at Georgia State University. That concert is pictured on the back of this album cover.

  29. T.... E....

This music stands up after all these years! Oh, boy I am going back to the mid 70's here! Memories!!!

  30. n.... ....

Each to their own as they say different strokes for different folks. But I cant understand IF you like Southern Rock why you dont like more than just this one song from ARS ?? I mean it's a matter of different taste for different people. But for me ARS is right there with Skynyrd and the Allman Bros. of course being from Ga. there is probably some bias on my part.

  31. b.... ....

ARS is second only to the Allman Brothers for me. Ronnie Hammond's voice puts me in mind of Southern version of Paul Rodger of Bad Company. They were/are a great band

  32. R.... B....

Reminds a bit of Skynyrd reguardless i love the ARS just as much as Skynyrd but no as much as the Allman Bros. I always felt the Atlanta Rhythm Section didnt get enough credit for being right at the top of the heap as far as Southern Rock bands are concerned.

  33. T.... M....

THEY COULD STAND FOOT TO FOOT WITH SKYNYRD

    T.... M....

They did! Members of ARS and LS were friends and often hung out together.

  34. j.... ....

Classic ARS song; reminds me of how great this band was... They were great. Thanks for posting.
