Atlanta Rhythm Section - Boogie Smoogie Lyrics

If you're down In Jacksonville
Stay away from Rainbow Grill
It's a juke joint, It's a dive
People there ain't nothin' but jive
Its a haven for the hookers, yeah
It's a redneck paradise
(And people there, they're so nice)

One night I was horny - horny as hell
So I ended up down at the Grill
A redheaded woman, poured in her pants
Said she was ready - ready to dance
Lord, that woman loved to boogie
Boogie Woogie all night long...
(And I'm talking bout romance)

(Lord I miss her so)

Turnin' green, got the shakes
I got that morning-after, sour bellyache
Feelin' blue, half dead
Ooh... my head
I went to sleep with an angel
Woke up with a devil in my bed...

Alright...
We played a gig down at Cooley's Ballroom
Back when we were breakin' in
We tried to play pretty for the people
But people kept hollerin' - "Boogie!"
Sweet baby...

We like reggae and we dig country
Classical music's a gas
We played the blues in three quarter time
But they don't wanna hear that jazz
They just want boogie!
Sweet boogie
Just want boogie
Hmmm... Boogie Schmoogie
Have some...

We like reggae and we dig country
Classical music's a gas
We played the blues in three quarter time
But they don't wanna hear no jazz
They want boogie!
They just want boogie
Boogie
They just want boogie
Oh boogie
They just want boogie

(Ha ha
If you like it, you must be all right)

Boogie...
...Dig it

First heard this album on the radio in the Texas penitentiary in 1975. Fell out of Dallas on an aggravated robbery charge. First album I bought in February of 1976 when I returned to society a reformed man

Love the Guitar tone and feel and wonderful phrasing..Way better than most hard rock and metal i listen to .

  16. j.... s....

I still have it in vinyl along with Red Tape one of the best Southern Rock albums I ever heard. RIP Ronnie and Paul and I think Barry and Dean might have passed away.

    j.... s....

Barry Retired And Dean is still the keyboard player. I just saw ARS 2 nights ago 10/6/2017. GREAT SHOW!! but too short. STILL AWESOME!!

Is this band still playing Live!! I Love to see this band before I Die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    J.... L....

Jerry Lawrence maybe in another lifetime.

    J.... L....

Yes they are. Original singer who was on the 1st album Rodney Justo is back. He left after the debut album then Ronnie Hammond came in.

  20. B.... Q....

They have a musical sound with many styles of music infused into one.Great

  21. D.... M....

I grew up in LA and that bass player for ARS was 1 of the fucking best bass players ever I think he was better than Jon Paul Jones from Zepplin.

  22. R.... H....

ARS was in a class by themselves. Rock, Blues, Soft Rock, hell they could do it all if they wanted too. What a bass player Goddard was, RIP my man. When you got a long road trip, put these guys on, smoke one, and cruise.

    R.... H....

    that's right roll and smoke

  23. 7.... ....

Dog Days may be the best example of ARS and the different styles they could play. One of the best slow to jamming songs I have ever heard-Nix and Goddard freaking smoke it on this jam and of course Barry and JR's epic guitar work.Dang this band was awesome !!

  24. J.... W....

    A killer!!

  25. L.... D....

    THIS IS SOUTHERN ROCK!!!!

  26. T.... ....

Listening the song I am rocking on my chair and drinking smooth Gazler's gin. it is something fantastic to hear super music and to strenghten myself the drink. Splendidly is ...

  27. m.... ....

Nope and I'll say once more:

    "NO WAY"

That they still write smoogie blues like this one.

    *tips hat

    m.... ....

    Are you tired yet?

  28. S.... P....

    Terrific!

  29. j.... ....

    Southern boogie at it's finest!!!

  30. m.... ....

    my theory:

if this song doesn't rock and hit a special "note" in your soul,
    then possibly (my advice) you should reevaluate your musical taste;
    whether or/not music "is" subjective.

This song completely fills my musical "fix." lol :)

A green giant's thumb UP! hehe... Thatz a mighty big thumb would not you agree?

    TY

  31. B.... G....

still got this album on vinyl would never part with it.

  32. l.... ....

I love this song. Wish I could find the lyrics somewhere. There are a couple lines that are difficult to tell what Ronnie is singing. Love to turn this song up loud in the car and drive fast.

  33. G.... H....

The first album from ARS I ever heard was this album-way back when. It was nice to listen again Esp. this particular tune AWESOME

  34. j.... ....

LOVE LOVE LOVE dog days :) they just don't make music like this any more :( :( :(

  35. A.... N....

Thanks for posting this! It is one of my favorites...Barry Bailey doesn't "shred," but boy, does he bring the tone and FEEL with ALL his solos!! He's definitely one of my favorite blues-based guitar players!

  36. T.... K....

    Fantastic........Barry Bailey in top form.

  37. m.... ....

Yep, music the way it should be! "Dog Days" and this song has always blown my mind and very rightly so. It's simply a masterpiece of musicians carving their craft into perfection! Thanks for taking the time to share exceptional music, my friend. :)
