Association, The - Along The Way Lyrics

If you think that you could care
And maybe share a time or two with me
Along the way
I can't read your mind
You've got to find it in yourself to let me know
If I should stay

I won't be the one to say goodbye
I won't be the one to make you cry

If you think the time we spent
Could mend a hurt or two and make us free
In what we say
I could find the time to understand
I'd hold your hand and I could be
Part of your day

I won't be the one to say goodbye
I won't be the one to make you cry

I can see the reasons for giving
There is so much in your eyes
I can see the way that you're living
You're all alone, so am I...

In the time it takes to understand
The hand has written on the wall
And gone away
So take life as you find it
For behind it there are reasons for it all
Along the way

I won't be the one to say goodbye
I won't be the one to make you cry
Along your way

Si crees que te puede importar y tal vez compartir una o dos veces conmigo en el camino,
No puedo leer tu mente, tienes que encontrarla en ti para avisarme si debería quedarme.
No seré yo quien diga adiós.
No seré yo quien te haga llorar. Si crees que el tiempo que pasamos podría repararnos un daño o hacernos libres en lo que decimos,
Podría encontrar el tiempo para entender, te tomaría de la mano y podría ser parte de tu día.
No seré yo quien diga adiós.
No seré yo quien te haga llorar.
No seré yo quien diga adiós.
No seré yo quien te haga llorar
    En tu camino.

It is definitely Jim Yester singing. If you like his style/voice then you ought to check out other songs by the Association which he wrote and on which he sang lead vocals - No Fair at All, Birthday Morning and What Were the Words spring to mind - they are all wonderful songs.

With regard to the song sounding more like a solo performance than a group effort, according to 'Cherish: The Story of America's First Folk-Rock Band' by Malcolm C. Searles (well worth buying if you are an Association fan), the band weren't in a good place, as a band, recording this album and quite often tracks were recorded by the song writer with some and rarely all of the rest of the band contributing to the vocals.

Never the less, listen to the single version of this song. You'll find it on 'The Complete Warner Bros. & Valiant Singles Collection' and you'll notice a significant difference. The piano accompaniment is pushed to the rear of the mix and a typical Association, full band, support vocal can be heard in its place. I'm not sure which version I prefer but it's certainly great to have both versions to compare.

I love Jim Yester! He sing so beautifully <3 just have to fall in love

  7. M.... B....

Could it be Jim Yester singing this one?

    M.... B....

    Yep, it is!!

  8. M.... B....

    Great song!

  9. M.... B....

Who is singing this? How is this listed under The Association? It is quite beautiful. Thought for a moment it was Judy Collins, but it's not. So who is it?

    M.... B....

Sounds like Jim Yester to me.

    M.... B....

Almost certainly Jim Yester, who also wrote this song.

  10. T.... G....

    Beautiful words full of meaning.
The Association is my all-time favorite groups.
So glad my wife and I saw them perform and I was able to meet them personally so many years ago.

  11. A.... L....

I had priviledge and pleasure hearing the guys do this live in 1971 at state fair Syracuse,NY......a lasting memory i will never forget......Bravo!!

  12. L.... M....

This is another group. Nothing of the voices play they used in the late 60's. The 70's were a different decade.

    L.... M....

Actually, this lineup includes six of the core seven members of the group from the 60's. The only one missing here is Russ Giguere.

  13. t.... ....

Has to be one of the most beautiful they wrote and recorded. Love it!

  14. c.... ....

Does anyone know the lyrics to this song?  Particularly the last verse that begins
"in the time it takes to understand
the hand is written on the wall ..."

I really need the next two lines if anyone has a guess to what they are.

    Thanks.

So, take life as you find it, for behind it there are reasons for it all...along the way.

    @smithfieldfair Thank you!

    c.... ....

+cajuncocoa Smithfield left out...... "and gone away", which precedes "so take life as you find it...etc"

  15. P.... D....

Nice to see some support for this awesome band!

  16. P.... D....

As obscure as this LP is, it's proof that The Association never wrote a bad song! This and "Waterbeds" are really amazing albums that didn't get the recognition they deserved.

  17. P.... R....

    toda una vida buscando esto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. A.... L....

    BRAVO Mr Yester and crew!!
