Arnold, Eddy - You Don't Know Me Lyrics

You give your hand to me
And then you say hello
And I can hardly speak
My heart is beating so
And anyone could tell
You think you know me well
But you don't know me

No, you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips
And longs to hold you tight
To you, I'm just a friend
That's all I've ever been
But you don't know me

For I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance you might have loved me too

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy
To never, never know
The one who loves you so
No, you don't know me

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy
To never, never know
The one who loves you so
No, you don't know me

  8. C.... D....

One of the most beautiful songs ever written

  9. v.... ....

His voice come straight out of the past, back when I was a teen whose father never turned off his radio that was always tuned to country music. That was years and years ago, and Eddy Arnold remains a part of what matters in life.

  10. W.... H....

It doesn't get any better than Eddy Arnold singing

  11. M.... B....

    OH OH !!!YOU DO'NT KNOW ME.NO .

  12. E.... R....

    What a beautiful voice.

  13. T.... F....

Eddy co-wrote this, but Ray Charles has the best version. By far.

  14. R.... M....

Great song. Written by Arnold and Cindy Walker. There's a great cover of this song by Ray Charles on "Modern Sounds of Country and Western Music."

    R.... M....

And who are the 25 tin-eared Philistines who gave this song a thumbs down? Jeepers.

  15. G.... C....

This reminds me of my second love, TJ we cuddled on the couch when this was playing, Miss you love!

  16. S.... C....

Absolutely classic country at its best!!

  17. J.... G....

Love to hear Eddy Arnold sing, he has the sweetest voice!

  18. l.... H....

Eddy a great singer,my husband loved his songs. He was like
    First crossover.♥️♥️♥️♥️

  19. L.... ....

How come this wasn't popularized by Fallout?

  20. S.... R....

Eddy Arnold had the sense to fire Colonel Tom Parker. I wish Elvis had done that when Elvis came out of the army.

  21. B.... L....

Cindy walker wrote it eddie gave her the ideal

  22. C.... M....

    Anthem of a cereal killer

  23. M.... L....

This is just a great song. I always thought Cindy Walker wrote it. She always gets sole songwriter credit. And there are so many versions out there, Country and op. It’s hard to make a mess of it.

    M.... L....

Eddy only provided the title and the concept, Cindy wrote everything else.

  24. D.... W....

Eddy Elvis Ricky all beautifully sang.

  25. d.... j....

I loved Eddy's delivery. He was an excellent storyteller and made, in particular his ballads, very heartfelt. As good as his rendition is, the woman who actually wrote the song - Eddy's contribution was the song's title and that's it - does the best job on this song of anyone who recorded it. Check out Cindy's version, and read about her other great tunes.:-)

  26. i.... m....

love his music since the day my father brought a few records home from Canada

  27. E.... H....

Some people do not know how to relax and appreciate something different.

  28. w.... g....

Used to listen to this lp every time I went to my local bar in the 70's.

  29. G.... M....

The vibraphone had tubes located under the steel keys struck by mallets, the tubes had a disc that was on a shaft and could spin at variable speeds to create the tremolo sound you here in the background, a beautiful instrument adaptable to most any type music. And the master of smooth, Eddy Arnold at the microphone!

  30. G.... M....

The vibraphone can be clearly be heard in the background, the current two tone doorbell was an off shoot of the instrument, pleasant, not annoying. The "A" Team was behind Eddy Arnold in this recording, all of them in one room at Bradley Studios!

  31. M.... C....

    This is nice.

  32. R.... P....

I never told this girl when I heard this song that I loved her and didn't see her for 53 yrs. I found her and still didn't tell her, afraid and shy I was afraid of losing her. She passed away before I had the chance to tell her. I hope and pray I will see her again!

    R.... P....

    She knows, now❤

  33. G.... B....

Eddie Arnold is a great singer...This is one of his best !!

  38. A.... S....

You give your hand to me then you say hello
And I can hardly speak my heart is beating so
And anyone can tell you think you know me well
    But you don't know me
No you don't know the one who dreams of you at night
Who longs to kiss your lips and longs to hold you tight
    I guess I'm just a friend that's all I've ever been
    Cause you don't know me
For I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by
A chance that you might love me too
You give your hand to me and then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky one
Oh you'll never know how much I love you so
    Well you don't know me

  39. D.... G....

I remember listening to my dad play this record and sing along with Eddie Arnold, he's been gone for 23 yrs now, and I can still "hear" his voice singing this song............

  40. J.... D....

Eddy is one of the true Greats of music, he had hit records in the 40,s, 50s, 60s. And 70s, maybe even 80s, not bad for an old country boy who rode a mule to his first singing engagements.

  41. G.... P....

Where have I been . I'm just now listening to this wonderful voice and its melting my heart away.

  42. K.... R....

    One of my dad's favorite

  43. M.... W....

Who the hell keeps giving this a thumbs down? What could anyone possibly find to hate about this piece of music?

    M.... W....

The 'dumbed down' community.. this is too complex for simple minds

    M.... W....

They have no taste for good music.

    M.... W....

I'd have voted it down when I was 10 years old. One of those sappy old people songs, ya know? And grownups who said I had no taste in music for not liking it would fall into the "grownups to ignore" category. (For the record, I think it's a beautiful song now.)

    M.... W....

@Amalia Taranco You are so right, these trolls just have no taste, and are not worth mentioning

    M.... W....

same people who voted for you know who.

  44. K.... T....

Such a great song. Probably the most successful cover of this original was by Jerry Vale.

    K.... T....

check out wickepedia. Jerry Vale's version only charted at #18 on Cashbox while Arnold's charted at # 14 onm the country charts. BTW- One of my all time favorite songs. I liked both Arnold's and Vale's versions.

  45. P.... M....

    Love these old songs .

    P.... M....

All are so good to hear---so much bette rthan todays music!

  46. c.... ....

It's a great song and Eddie must get much credit for writing and recording it. Ray Charles' cover from 1962 is superb.

    c.... ....

    catman916 Eddie wrote it?

    c.... ....

Eddy approached Cindy Walker with the title and the basic idea for the song, then she wrote it for him.

    c.... ....

Never thought about who wrote it - love it!! Never heard by Ray Charles. lol Strange.

    c.... ....

A song can't be recorded until it's written and both versions are good. Ray's is more soulful and I expected more twang in this version. The producers must have wanted this to cross over to the pop music stations.

    B.... D....

    ...  This isn't country.

    B.... D....

I'm old school I love it

    B.... D....

@WhackyJ in AK What is it if it's not country......can't be more country as this lovely tune..

    B.... D....

  52. O.... M....

Eddy Arnold "One of the real great singers of all times."

  53. K.... ....

This has happened to me a few times... No wonder it was a hit record.

  54. S.... T....

Eddy Arnold was my mother's favorite and thus mine also. I used to listen to his records as a kid, all the time!
The very first song that I sang on-stage in Branson was "You Don't Know Me."

    S.... T....

My mother used to listen to it too. She'd grab me and dance with me... Great memories... :)

    S.... T....

My folks had his albums and although it's silly, I use to listen to Poor Howard's Dead & Gone every night at bedtime.

  55. T.... A....

    Awesome singing. ..nice video

  56. b.... f....

Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by. Haven't we all.

  57. T.... C....

    And I'm crying again. Dammit...

    T.... C....

A true icon. His music will live on in those who RESPECT the quality of his voice and music. I love him and many more icons like the smooth voice of Jim Reeves.

  58. D.... ....

Trust me, the woman you secretly love always know.

  61. A.... W....

Written by Eddy Arnold and Cindy Walker. Recorded by many big name singers.

    A.... W....

+Alwey Wong     Eddy didn't write it, but gave the idea to Cindy Walker. So that's why Eddy got writer's credit.

  62. R.... N....

    friend zone anthem

    R.... N....

Perhaps .... but as tough as I think I am I have felt this way and in fact kind of am right now

    R.... N....

    It’s neck-and-neck with “Can’t We Be Friends”. 😉

  63. C.... M....
