Arnold, Eddy - The Wayward Wind Lyrics

Oh, the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wonder
And I was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

In a lonely shack by a railroad track
I spent my younger days
And I guess the sound of the outward bound
Made me a slave to my wandering ways

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wonder
And I was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

Oh, I met a girl in a border town
I vowed we'd never part
Though I tried my best to settle down
She's now alone with a broken heart

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wonder
And I was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

The next of kin to the wayward wind...

Arnold, Eddy The Wayward Wind Comments

I am also a fan of Eddy’s. Living in far away Sri Lanka I wrote to Eddy and much to my surprise he wrote back using an old typewriter and enclosed an autographed photo of his which I treasure. In 2000 I had the opportunity to visit Nashville and the old Rhyman Auditorium and the new Grand old Opry complex. Loving Jim Reeves too I got to see much memorabilia on display. Also Elvis gold leaf piano and costumes of Marty Robbins. My great regret was not dropping on Eddy who was still alive then because I felt it would be an intrusion on his privacy. But having read about in later I think he’d have been happy to meet a fan from a country he may not have known much of so many miles away. I have a good collection of his songs on cd and vinyl. God rest just soul.

They gave Vern the nickname "The Voice ". Well Johnny Horton, Jim Reeves, Don Gibson & Eddie Arnold, along with a few others had some of the most beautiful singing voices also!❤

  3. R.... M....

When you haven't heard him singing for a few years, you forget just how great a voice he had! A simpler version without all the backup instruments, still beautiful!

I have always had a preference for Frank Ifield's version, but I really like this lovely rendition by Eddy. Presumably accompanied by Chet Atkins?

    Mitchell, SD.............many, many years ago.
Eddie informed us all........take your pics NOW!
If a single flash bulb goes off while HE was on stage and he
    would walk OFF.
That was one of my early celebrity shows but HE is the only one
who EVER came off as a prima dona.
Johnny, Merle, Elvis, etc etc but nobody ever came across as BAD
    as this guy.

I have always loved this song. Your dad sings it the best. I do have this record and it has been played often throughout the years. This kind of classic cowboy music is the original country and western music. The newer country and western music is too depressing. The cowboys sang about the prairie, the range, nature and it was more enjoyable.

  36. J.... ....

I love it too. Thanks so much for listening to it!
    Jim

@azw596 So glad that you liked it! I have always been a fan of his and can remember his TV show. My Dad always said that he was bound for the hall of fame, and he was right. One of the very Best in my opinion. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I too have many musical sides.
