Arnold, Eddy - Roses To Reno Lyrics

Send some roses to Reno, maybe it's not too late
If the roses reach Reno, maybe baby will wait

Baby's gone she's out of sight it all happened over night
But how long I should have stayed and that was yesterday before I'd found
Baby's Reno bound

Send some roses to Reno, maybe it's not too late
If the roses reach Reno, maybe baby will wait

Never thought she'd say goodbye guess my thoughts were all a lie
Baby smiled on me for just a little while and baby let me down
Baby's Reno bound

Send some roses to Reno, maybe it's not too late
If the roses reach Reno, maybe baby will wait

  4. J.... B....

Does he just sing or is he playing guitar too?

    J.... B....

He plays a flat top guitar. You will hear it thruout the song, but it stands out real good in the turnaround, at min 1:13, you only hear the steel guitar and the flattop. As soon as the song starts out, you will hear the steel and also the flattop.

  18. G.... M....

I have an original 78 of this.  Eddy was great back then and he's still one of the performers that can be called Country and Western singers.  Don't know what the stuff is that they are making now.  The music they are putting out would have been considered "popular" music not so many years ago. I guess Country music decided to be a little more appealing to more people.  Brought Country home to everyone. Can't say that it is an improvement.

    G.... M....

Some of the best music ever was sung by the real singers of Country music in the 40's, 50's,
60's. What they are singing now I have no idea what it is. years ago it would have been classified as Pop.  The Pop of today stinks even worse. Evolution is not always a good thing.

    > Alwey Wong-You are correct, Eddy Arnold was a huge land owner. His career was going downhill when he decided to be a pop singer. He saw money in land; he made huge investments in land; got Wiggins his real estate license. He had made a proposition in 1945 that if Wiggins would stay with him, he would take care of him for life. By '53 he did not appear on many sessions. Nov '59 they recorded a bunch of their old song. 1961 was their last session together. He died Aug 3, '99. No body played the steel like Roy. Don Helms w/Hank Williams was good.

    B.... H....

Or Ralph Mooney who played for Waylon Jennings.

    B.... H....

Or Kayton Roberts who played for Hank Snow for over 30 yrs!

    B.... H....

Well Eddy did NOT fulfill his promise. For Little Roy Wiggins died a starving man. He was so poor that his family could not even afford a grave marker.

When a group of steel players decided to buy a marker and place it on LR's grave, they asked Eddy to contribute. He said, "NO!"Yet he made 70 million dollars (when a million was like a billion today) during the time LR was with him over a period of 25 yrs. And Roy was on every recording of EA except for "It's a Sin" and "To my Sorrow".

It has been said, that EA was so stingy that he still had the first dollar he ever made.

And that is the "Rest of the story".

    For whatever it's worth.

  20. B.... H....

According to my records and Eddy's comments, Roy wiggins was asked to retune his guitar to do away with the "ting-a-ling" sound. This happened after a performance one night when Roy got more of an appluse when he played than Eddy got when he sung. You can tell when this happened about 1949 or '50. To me the "ting-a-ling" sound is what made the song. After the early "50's , I never cared for his songs. I do have all his first recordings from the mid '45's to 1952. I was 15 years old when he started.

    B.... H....

@Bob Harris While in Texas Roy received a call from a DJ and Roy told him that Eddy was not there. The DJ told Roy that he is the one he wanted to come in for an interview on the air. Yes my friend these so called "stars" were selfish and had huge egos. For years Arnold drove an old Buick rather than spend money on a new one. He owned a lot of land in Davidson County, Tn. When I got out of the service I bought a car from Shacleford Buick. Eddy owned this property and next door was Sears. He could have easily given his band members $200,000 dollars as severance pay. He gave Roy a job selling real estate..

    B.... H....

You are correct in stating what you did Bob Harris; with this one addition. It was Eddy who insisted that LR change his tuning and stop ting-a-linging. Eddy was very Jealous any time the audience clapped loudly for Roy.

    Sad but very true.

So Roy added a high G# string above his top string tuned to E. Many of us did not like this; because it took away from the perfect match of LR's sound to EA's voice.

Thus Eddy shot himself in the foot for his envy of Roy.

  21. A.... W....

Roy Wiggins on steel guitar. I attended his memorial service. Guess who was not there.

    A.... W....

His name was actually Le Roy Wiggins, but he got the nickname, "Lil' Roy", as a slur on Le Roy from his fellow musicians and performers. He was from Pigeon Forge, TN. Another fantastic musician I've never met. Got to see Eddy Arnold perform this song at the Lyon Co. (Iowa) fair, but I was very young sitting on my Dad's shoulders. The show opened with this song, and when Lil' Roy took of on the intro, the crowd went wild.

    A.... W....

And HE would not contribute ONE dime for Roy's grave Marker, when some steel players asked him to do so.

Yet Eddy made 75 milion dollars while Roy was with him and Roy died so poor that his family could not afford the marker. So the grave had no marker til the steel players bought one and placed it on Roy's grave.

  22. W.... W....

Reminds me of my first love affair falling apart.

    W.... W....

Reminds me of all my LOVE AFFAIRS, THE ALL FELL APART !!!!

  23. w.... ....

    Eddy at his best

    w.... ....

    Old but so very nice!

  24. j.... b....

The most popular song in the history of the country music charts. 19 weeks at #1, 46 weeks in the top 5,  53 in the top 10 and 54 on the best seller list.

  25. C.... L....

so love this song, sooooooooo love Eddy , so love his songs............xo

  26. C.... M....

A great artist with a terrific voice. Also, love the steel guitar. I played this at many dances.

  27. T.... B....

Clint Eastwood was a surprisingly good songwriter wasn't he.

    T.... B....

I knew Clint wrote songs, but did not know he wrote his one.  Yes he was a great song writer.

    T.... B....

Clint Eastwood did not write this song. It was written by Bob Hilliard and Steve Nelson.

  28. b.... ....

good clean recording and young voice, great job, thanks!

  29. S.... B....

Thanks for posting this, the originally released version. You don't find it very often. People are used to hearing the later, orchestrated versions, and when my band and I played this 'country' version, folks commented that we played it too fast! The later versions are allot slower tempo. I prefer this era of Eddy Arnold's career.

  30. r.... p....

eddy arnold was one of our great singers ,,smooth voice ,,loved him ,,,rollande

  31. s.... ....

My dad played this a lot when I was growing up in the '50s.

  32. j.... r....

Eddy was one of the great singers, one of the best alone with carl smith , hank williams and
web pierce, hank thompson, and merle travis.

  33. s.... h....

    great song

  34. R.... ....

Eddy was such a great singer. Very lowkey and smooth. His style is comparable to Perry Como.

    R.... ....

    Eddy's idol was Bing Crosby.

Actually, Eddy hated "Country Music". When he hired Roy Wiggins to play steel for him; he said "I do not want you to play hillbilly style of playing the steel guitar, etc".

It was then when Roy changed his style of playing with one goal. To embellish Eddy's smooth unprecedented voice. It worked extremely well. And made Eddy a fortune.

Too bad Eddy never gave Roy any credit for his unbelievable career.

    So sad.

  35. H.... I....

    Köszönöm a feltöltést <:o)

  36. H.... W....

Little Roy Wiggins on the steel guitar.

  37. B.... ....

I remember Eddy !! I had to edit a vid for an ex-friend last year :)
I am not a country girl, even do not have a hat and a horse, but I like this one.
Sounds pretty and getting roses is always beautiful.
    All Thumbs Up !!!

  38. 1.... ....

My Daddy played guitar and sang....loved Eddy Arnold. I remember recording a record at fairgrounds of me singing "That's How Much I Love You", Must have been 5 or six. Also liked "Anytime", "I'll Hold You In My Heart" and "I'll Walk Alone".
