Wonderfully sung by Eddie, songwriter Roger Miller's last (and best, IMHO) verse was "life is a desert and love quenches thirst, life is a desert and love quenches thirst, we all have to hurt some time, this is my first time, the last word in lonesome is me." We all get hurt in love at some point. I always include that verse when I sing this song. My favorite by Roger.

I too love his voice as well, he was a Baritone BUT had an upper register he could tap into when he needed/wanted to. He had a unique voice to be able to yodel. Even in this song you can hear him move up to a tenor range. I have a Bass, Baritone, Tenor, High Falsetto voice, Close to 4 Octave range. Love singing Dean Martin, Eddy Arnold, (My mom named me after Eddy Arnold & Dean Martin) Sinatra, Elvis, Jim Reeves, Ray Price, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, Lou Rawls, Al Green, I can even channel Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, George Strait, George Jones, Hank Williams and many more.

I love Eddy too but in my opinion Johnny Cash has the most beautiful voice in Country music.

That was one of my favorite records of all time. Eddy Arnold was one of a kind. Can you post his song, " Millions of Roses," from that same album. I would be so happy to hear that again.

I've loved this recording since I was a kid in the 60s. It wasn't until years later that I realized the little word play in the lyrics - that the last word in lonesoME actually is me. Leave it to Roger Miller to be that clever.
