Arnold, Eddy - I'll Hold You In My Heart Lyrics

I'll hold you in my heart till I can hold you in my arms
Like you'd never been held before
I'll think of you each day and then I'll dream the night away
Till you are in my arms once more

The stars up in the sky know the reason why
I feel so blue when I'm away from you
I'll hold you in my heart till I can hold you in my arms
So darling please wait for me

The stars up in the sky...

You listen to these people on the grand old opry, the one where there all singing old songs and who's name come's up? well here's a old Eddy Arnold song. I don't think that Eddy got the recognizing that he deserved. This man was all you heard in the late 40's and early 50's. Sinatra, Bing- they all listened to him!

  4. R.... ....

What a beautiful song! The Country Music documentary on PBS brought me here.

    R.... ....

I grew up listening to country, and didn't really understand, nor like it...40 plus years later I'm living in Hawaii, and realise the connection of Hawaiian sound steel guitar, and realise I guess I always did like country but didn't realise it....lol

To me this was Eddy's greatest song EVER. He had MANY hits but NONE could touch this one. I met my sweetheart (then wife for 57 yrs) and we made this song our "Theme Song". The reason it was so apropos, was that I could only see her for 2 months of the year for the first four years of our life while dating. This song came out one month after she and I met. And it became so perfect for our relationship. Whenever we heard this song for 61 yrs, she cried; which brought tears to my heart also. She passed away in my arms 6 days after our 57th anniversary 11 yrs ago. I shall never forget her. So...

I shall cherish her and this song forever. And pray that Jesus will rest her precious soul always.

A very moving comment. Rest assured that she is waiting for you and that someday you two will meet again.

  7. W.... C....

Love LR Wiggins on the steel guitar.

    W.... C....

AMEN! Little Roy Wiggins was the "Driving" force behind Eddy's unprecedented career. To bad Eddy only paid Roy a small salary for 25 yrs; while Eddy made untold millions. Worse was when Eddy was asked to donate for Roy's Grave marker, he sternly said "NO"!" Oh well.

  8. T.... B....

Dedicated to Mason, I will never forget you because you will be in my heart.

Thank you, one of his best, great steel guitar..

  25. B.... H....

This was recorded May 18, 1947 at RCA studios in Chicago. There were 9 songs recorded that day, Bouguet of Roses being one of them. This was his 6th session. Roy Wiggins on steel.

  26. G.... R....

Lovely song by everyone. Eddy Arnold, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Slim Whitman. They all did it great and different. It is a lovely song and no one did it better than the other only different as this song attracted all these great singers.

  27. G.... ....

Not a patch on the Elvis version.

    G.... ....

    i dont argue fool

  28. a.... d....

great song - but Elvis' version is out of this world!

    a.... d....

    Same here Mr.Warmth,

    a.... d....

No disrespect; and recognizing that Elvis was an outstanding entertainer; but a country singer he was not. It was Rock that made his fame.

This song by Eddy Arnold was possibly THE greatest recording ever made of a singer, his guitar and the unbelievable gift of his steel player; little Roy Wiggins that changed "hillbilly music" to Country Music" ever since

NO one could ever equal this tri-musical congregation. LRW was with EA for 25 yrs and played on EVERY record during that time that Eddy recorded, except for "It's a Sin" and "To my Sorrow".

History shows that Eddy got ticked with LR (BECAUSE the fans were clapping louder when Roy did his famous "tingalinging" and Eddy got jealous) and so he decided to try another steel player. He quickly found out he had to "eat crow" and go back to what "brought him to the show". Oh indeed yes. For both songs flopped; which was rare for EA's recordings.

There is possibly no match between a singer and his backup greater, than LRW backing EA; and becoming the driving force behind Eddy's unprecedented success in country music. For he was the first to crossover to "Pop" and instantly became the wealthiest country singer by far; UNTIL Elvis came along.

    For what it's worth.

    a.... d....

I agree Pad dee. I don`t believe Elvis was in the same country as Eddy Arnold or any of the other real country singers. Arnold`s rendition of I`ll Hold You In My Heart was/is one of the great recordings of all time.

    a.... d....

EDDY ARNOLD IS MY CHOICE ELVIS IS OVER RATED EDDY WAS FAR BETTER IMO

    a.... d....

    bullshit

  29. B.... M....

this is a one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard and Eddy Arnold does a great job singing it....

    B.... M....

Bessie M Lawler -You are correct, this is a beautiful song done by Eddy, but I would like for you to listen to Don Walser version, he has it twice, so listen to them both. It will take you back to your days of slow dancing. They are beautiful. Go to U-Tube and ask for it by Don Walser.

    B.... M....

    Me too, Bessie

  30. G.... M....

I've got an original 78 of this recording.  No matter how many years go by this is whatcountry music was meant to be.  I first heard it in '58 at `1 years old and it is somethingI will never forget.  The only thing that sounds better to me is the old song from my Scotland.

    G.... M....

I recently "discovered" Irish country music. Not only Irish but Scottish, Norwegian and some others andalthough I don't understand the language the music is beautiful. I hope they never go the way of country singers have here in the USA.

    G.... M....

    you lying punk

  31. A.... W....

I believe it was in Houston that Roy received a call from a disc jocky who wanted an interview and he replied that Eddy wasn't there at the moment. The disc jocky replied that he didn't want to interview Eddy, it was Roy who he wanted to interview.

  32. J.... M....

I love Eddie, but did anyone ever hear Elvis' cover of this song!!!

    J.... M....

June Carter is the best female singer there ever was.

    J.... M....

of course I'm 72 years old

    J.... M....

I don't care for it! The Elvis version, that is.

    J.... M....

Jim Reeves slowed it down and gave it his personality. Lovely. I love Reeves and Arnold.

  33. A.... W....

There has never been a steel guitar player that has this unmistakable sound like Roy Wiggins. Most of the pedal steel players all sound pretty much the same. They do not have a distinct sound.

    A.... W....

+Bob Harris Confession, Harris me too.
I saw and interview where Arnold said he just wanted to be known as a singer and not pop, jazz, country etc. I up to that point I considered him in a different light and not a very flattering light. I could add to that but why? "The man is dead.
Those of us who loved his efforts in music have been rewarded by listening to him.
In the early days of country music records were not being sold because they did not know how to market them.
Arnold had the backing of RCA where just about every small town had an RCA store that sold stereo ,TVs and records with the RCA logo on them.

    A.... W....

+Bob Harris Roy Wiggins is responsible for thousands of young men wanting to be a steel player. It was a toss up between him and Jerry Byrd. Yes, there were other great steel players but these were the top two.

    A.... W....

+Alwey Wong We agree on one thing, thanks. Interesting to note, my little hometown 80 mi. from Nashville had no record shop. TV's were not invented yet. There were two jukebox stores, jukeboxes were every where, even in service stations, barber shops, restaurants. I would buy the used records from the juke stores, 25 cents ea. 5 for $1. Bought a phonograph from a hardware store, that would pick up the music from the phono but you wouldn't hear it but you could find the station on your radio and would play thru a radio and and other peoples radio's for up to one mile range. I would "go on air" @ 6:00 PM for 1hr. Good days.

    A.... W....

+Bob Harris I would go "on air" for 1 hr. @ 6PM. Most of the songs I played then I still have. They have been transferred from 78's to cassette. Have almost all Ernest Tubb, Eddy Arnold, Hank Thompson, Roy Acuff. The phonograph would not make a sound, you'd find the "station" on radio to hear it . Amazing. This was 1944-47. I went into the Air Force in '47.

    A.... W....

"In the early days of country music records were not being sold because they did not know how to market them."

Alwey Wong, in all due respect I must say "Au Contraire". For Eddy Arnold made over 75 million dollars during that time; when a million is almost as a billion today. He was so popular in Europe that his success almost topped what he was doing in America. Until Elvis came along; he was the richest country star by far.

During that time, he was the first "hillbilly" singer to go to the top on the "Pop" charts. Some of them stayed on the charts for weeks and weeks. Unprecedented in country music in that era. Thus his fortune.

And MOST of that success was driven by Little Roy Wiggins. Regardless of what EA said.

    Oh indeed yes.

  34. A.... W....

Roy Wiggins the best of the best. I attended his memorial. Is it possible to mistake who is playing that steel?

    A.... W....

Not possible with his famous “ting-a-limb” sound.

    A.... W....

This was LR for sure. He was a dear friend of mine. This recording was cut in 1947, I met him shortly after that. We were close friends until he died. He would have played at my show in Atlanta in 97'; but he became sick and he died shortly after. Too bad that Eddy would not donate a dime toward's LR's grave marker.

There were many who tried to "tingle ling", (like "Bashful Brother Oswald" behind Roy Acuff, "Hoot Rains" behind Slim Whitman. the player on "It;s a sin" and "To my Sorrow" behind Eddy Arnold and the player that played steel for Marty Robbins when LR was out of town etc), but NO one ever could do it like Little Roy. There is a story of why this happened.

When Eddy Arnold hired LR, he told him, "I do NOT want you to play steel guitar like others do. I want it smooth, mellow and NOT hillbilly!". Roy did exactly that, and it became the "driving" force behind Eddy's hit songs for over 25 yrs. Eddy never believed that, but nevertheless it was true.

  35. c.... k....

Should I send it to her? Could a song make a difference? :(

    c.... k....

Sing it to her, it ll make the difference

  36. V.... S....

The words are incredible here. I rem. these words from when I was a child. No one could ever sing it like Eddy. My husband and I loved this song. Thanks for sharing this on the web.

Until they released "Bouquet Of Roses" in 1948 this was the biggest hit in country music chart history, with 21 weeks at #1 and 46 weeks on the chart.

  39. p.... d....

Thank you for posting this ORIGINAL recording of Eddy Arnold's classic song. Little Roy Wiggins was the incredible "steel guitar" player on it. A personal friend of mine.

This song became my sweetheart and my "theme song" since I later married her; and she was my wife until she passed away on Aug 31, 2008 after 57 yrs.

She would cry EVERY time she heard it, since we became sweethearts when she was 15 and I was 16. We married when she was 18.

I am crying over her as I am listening. My angel
