I personally get thoughts about how much of modern "masculinity" and "feminity" in modern society is very much contrived by a capitalistic system designed to make us the best workers and consumers. There's a backlash towards this by the so-called "lgbtq" community and instead of getting closer to themselves they say they are the opposite of what is mainstream thus falling into another contrived caricature.
Ariel Pink can wear whatever outfits you throw at him but he is still Ariel Pink. Ariel Pink can start saying he feels like a woman or a man or whatever, throw himself through any loops and he is still Ariel Pink. You could say part of him trying to fight his own identity is part of what makes his identity his.

i think “trying too hard to be what you are” could be read as trans, or at least, nonbinary sympathetic. Pink could be saying we’re trying to fit into these gender roles instead of letting things flow hedonistically. He’s letting go of those old vestiges of gender convention. yeah i disagree. Ariel Pink has always explored themes of androgyny and gender fluidity.
