Aretha Franklin - Try A Little Tenderness Lyrics

She may be weary
Women do get weary
Wearing the same shabby dress
And when she's weary

Try a little tenderness
You know she's waiting
Just anticipating things she may never possess
While she's without them,

Try a little tenderness
It's not just sentimental
She has her grief and care
And a word that's soft and gentle

Makes it easier to bear
You won't regret it
Women don't forget it
Love is their whole happiness

It's all so easy
Try a little tenderness

She may be weary
Women do get weary
Wearing the same shabby dress
And when she's weary

Try a little tenderness
You know she's waiting
Just anticipating things she may never possess
While she's without them

Try a little tenderness
It's not just sentimental
She has her grief and care
And a word that's soft and gentle

Makes it easier to bear
You won't regret it
Women don't forget it
Love is their whole happiness

It's all so easy
Try a little tenderness

Aretha Franklin Try A Little Tenderness Comments
  1. Joanne Smith

The violins represent the beauty of womanhood , and Aretha, the greatest influential female singer of all time sung it so perfectly. Her voice, always identifiable; her voice just above Whitney Houston..... They both left their huge talent vocals for the world to treasure. 🎵

  18. carollouis1941

This was the first album I purchased by the "Queen," Aretha Franklin in 1962. It is still one of my favorites. She was only 20 at the time, but you can hear the raw talent in her voice and playing. She has now ascended to the Heavenly Choir. I can see her and Sam Cooke fussing about who will be the leader since he has led it since 1964 lol. James Cleveland is the director, and he welcomed his student into Heaven and the choir. One day I shall see you perform again, Aretha.

    Try A Little Tenderness
    Frank Sinatra
    Oh she may be weary
Them young girls they do get wearied
Wearing that same old miniskirt dress
    But when she gets weary
    You try a little tenderness
    Oh man that
    Un hunh
    I know shes waiting
    Just anticipating
The thing that you'll never never possess
    No no no
    But while she there waiting
Try just a little bit of tenderness
That's all you got to do
Now it might be a little bit sentimental no
But she has her greavs and care
But the soft words they are spoke so gentle
    Yeah yeah yeah
And it makes it easier to bear
    Oh she wont regret it
    No no
Them young girls they don't forget it
    Love is their whole happiness
    Yeah yeah yeah
    But its all so easy
All you got to do is try
    Try a little tenderness
    Yeah
    Damn that hart (hard?)
All you got to do is know how to love her
    You've got to
    Hold her
    Squeeze her
    Never leave her
    Now get to her
Got got got to try a little tenderness
    Yeah yeah
    Lord have mercy now
All you got to do is take my advice
    You've got to hold her
    Don't squeeze her
    Never leave her
    You've got to hold her
    And never
So you got to try a little tenderness
    A little tenderness
    A little tenderness
    A little tenderness
    You've got to
    Got to got to
    You've gotta hold her
    Don't squeeze her
    Never leaver her
    You got
    Got got got to
    Now now now
    Got got got to
    Try a little tenderness
    Ye

I don't know what to say. I am heartbroken. I feel a huge sadness. This woman and her voice shaped my life. She made me want to learn how to sing in the first place. As a teen ager I was in awe of how easily she reached the high notes with a power that is exceptionally. Her phrasing and sound colour seem to come right from the soul. I wonder if there will ever be a singer like her, ever. In the age of autotune, where people seem to flee from the human voice and feelings rather than wanting to meet and embrace them. I cannot express what I feel tonight. A little piece of me has died with you, wonderful woman and singer Aretha Franklin. I will love you and cherish your music for all times, and as long as I live. I hope the place where you are now is good to you, and good for you. Take good care, dear Aretha!

Love this rendition of the song. She can do anything. The words come to live so exquisitely. Totally amazing, a work from heaven.

I own this ORIGINAL LP Album, this is Aretha Franklin at her VERY BEST. No Album or recording after this can compare to anything on this ENTIRE album. I'm not saying she didn't do anything really good after this album (Say a little Prayer, Daydreaming, Natural Woman, Until You Come Back to Me, United Together) but what I am saying is, This Is It. Lord Willing, listen to "Just for a Thrill " "Wandering" & God Bless the Child, from this same album and you'll understand

  57. steve mendoza

    Adorable, a great performance...

  92. Eddie Mae Wilkerson

My favorite version of this song the reason being is because first it's the one and only undisputed and incomparable Queen Of Soul. Secondly this version of the songs makes you sit back and actually listen to the story and message in the song, it also reminds me of my father who loved beautiful ballads and instrumental jazz music and causes me to look back and reminisce on the good old days!!! Just so sweet and slow mellow days when my family and I would all gather in the formal living room and listen to these records and try to play them on our piano!!!! My favorite part is when she says "now I might forget it but don't let me forget it." You know you better sang Re!!!

My goodness gracious ! The phrasing is phenomenal . The arrangement is flawless , and Aretha gave life to the words . I can picture a woman sitting at the kitchen table after everyone's left for work and school " with a drink and a cigarette " thinking these words to herself . I have to say it , I love Otis Redding but this song belongs to Aretha now .

Sorry, but Otis is the one who 'stole' this. It was written before he was born and first recorded by British band leader Ray Noble. One of the first artists connected with this song is the inimmitable Ruth Etting. The song should, in my opinion, always be performed by a lady.

    Karin Mustvedt-Plüss

I like this version a great deal, but more importantly; time to put Otis Redding out of this. I love him, too, but this song was written in 1933 and one of the earliest successes with it is the fabulous singer Ruth Etting. Should always be performed by a woman, that much is for sure.

    Letra Aretha Franklin
    I may get weary
    Women do geat weary
    Wearing the same shabby dress
    But to on who's weary
    Try a little
    Try a little tenderness
    Oh, oh, oh
    I may be waiting
    Just anticipating
    All of the things
    I may never possess

    Mmm, but while I'm waiting
    Try a little
    Try a little tenderness
I may be, I may be sentimental
    http://www.coveralia.com/letras/try-a-little-tenderness-aretha-franklin.php
    But I wanna say
    That I've had my griefs
Oh, and I've had my cares
    And just a good word
    Soft and gentle
    Makes it, makes it easier
    Easier to bear
    Now, I might forget it
Oh, but don't let me forget it
    Love's all ym whole
    Whole happiness
Mmm, and it's so, so easy
    Try a little
    Oh, try a little tenderness
    Tender, tender, tenderness
