April Wine - You Could Have Been A Lady Lyrics
Could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
I could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
When you awake, you find them on the bed lyin' beside you
They all love you, you're a good girl
And I ain't surprised when you realize just where you're goin' to
You could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
It could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
If I told you where you're goin' to
And they all want you to make love to
It's a shame, the fate of the game, the way it delights you
Could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
It could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
Na, na na na na, na
Na, na na na na, na
Na, na na na na, na, na na
Na, na na na na, na
Na, na na na na, na
Na, na na na na, na, na na
Alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady
It could have been alright, could have been here tonight
Could have been sweet as wine, could have been a lady

Great song to play on drums for sure. Love April Wine!
Powers, step into my office. Let's do some blow...
Anyone who "thumbs down" this song must only enjoy the sound of spoons and washboards.
I remember hearing this jam in the 6th grade and going Ape Shit over it...
Hot Chocolate!!! Probably the most covered band in the 70s 80s!!!
Greatest thing about early 70s hard rock is that what you heard on stage is exactly what you heard on the album. Raw and not over engineered
Un des groupes rock les plus sous-estimés de toute l’histoire de la 🎶 musique!!!
The chorus rings strongly of The Jackson's Blame It On The Boogie.
Nice that the Jackson's saw something in the song they liked and thought they could use. Goes to show that even the Jackson band could be inspired by others' music.
Early 70's hanging in Grand Bend during the summers, The pier, the roller rink, the main strip with a little doobage. Oh yeah
I read that this is Bruce Jenners favorite song
Could have but wasn't. Sorry to my 2 ex husbands. Lol
they were playing this outside the hotel i work at and i was just rythmically bobbing in the street like a crackhead
Kenny Powers and Clegg blowing lines!!!
Is that Mercer second to the right?
Con cierto tinte a Steve Miller band.

My buddies (The Brats) opened for them in St John's NF...ooo whatanite. lol

I was a LADY... I went home with my man.
I will always be a lady!!
Ripped off the Hot Chocolate Bands song
I think it was '82, my friends and I saw the The Who (minus Keith). After the show, a friend says "April Wine was better". ( he saw them the week before) I thought the remark was outrageous but the fact was the Who sounded flat that night . throughout the years, I pondered this remark and have concluded that as far as that Who lineup went, he was right and the fact that these guys could cover Hot Chocolate and make it friggin work.....To my friend John D, you were right, April Wine was better.
A lack of great songs was the major hinderance to their career.
Not a bad cover version . Still prefer the original by Hot Chocolate.
There both good
I like to ROCK. CHEERS, LARRY, Vancouver, B.C., Canada
I just love this song so much. Probably my all time favorite song by a Canadian band. It's so different from the original version by Hot Chocolate.
Off of the On the record album from 1972
They played at my highschool in the early 70's
If I remember correctly, they did a concert as a front for The Rolling Stones back in the late 70's in a small venue. Needless when The Stones came out, everyone went crazy. Does anybody else remember that?
An old Hot Chocolate tune.
I've seen April Wine 16 times now.
Wish I could find April Wine At Cayuga Speedway May 24 1993.
What a super fantastic weekend. They were joined by Kim Mitchel and Lee Arron. Good times.
Could have been a lady If I wasn't on the bad side of the moon, but I love to rock; guess enough is enough eh!!

Don’t forget Hot Chocolate recorded this twice. Once in ‘71, which this version resembles. And, again in ‘76, with a more disco flavor.
Who are the morons who hate April Wine? LOSERS!

Awesome song.
The place, A local high school located in Ville LaSalle, Quebec
back in the early 70's is where I and all my school friends first heard this amazing band.
Can you just imagine, being in that school with April Wine?
They blew everyone away, I am so very happy April Wine went on
and became Super Rock Stars. I saw this band BEFORE they became famous, They played at a local school in the gym, None of us had mobile phones back then.
When April Wine was finished their very first song, all of us were like JAW DROPPED - TOTALLY LIKE - WHO ARE THESE GUYS????? Then they played their second song, it was just awesome, we were jumping - screaming, WHAT AN AMAZING BAND.
Hey if any of the guys in the April Wine reads this do drop me a message.
Much Respect
John from Ville LaSalle, Quebec.
cool, I can totally relate to what you´re saying, and I´ve been to lasalle many times, back then, everything was new, even star wars was something you heard about first, then went to see without really having a clue, then you were just blown away, I saw level 42 the band at university making their first north american appearance, and it was like wtf, who are these guys, great musicians...have a good day
Me too.
LaSalle High School

Something seems missing - live version exemplifies
Rated under
Not really a"deep cut". #1 here in eastern Canada in early 70's , still kicks ass !
Magnificent groove overdose!
canada's grand funk railroad
Good taste my brother. Saw them in Toronto when teeny bopper.
If u listen to the very end of track you can hear definite GRAND FUNK RAILROAD influences
Ha....so true......can totally see the connection. Great observation.
Man, this album sure brings back memories. Timeless.
Not an original April Wine song but they do a great cover of it !!
Takes me back to the time I had a summer job as a CPR railway porter in my University days. The rule was that we couldn't sleep more than 3 hrs. a night, en route, which was virtually impossible to observe. The "rhythm of the rails" is absolutely mesmerizing. A songwriter can't go wrong with a "train song." The City of New Orleans was an instant classic. And I've heard 97 different versions of The Orange Blossom Special and have yet to hear a bad one. It's the popular music counterpart of The William Tell Overture. I realize this April Wine ditty is not, strictly speaking, a "train song" but, IMHO, the lyrics are almost superfluous. Since I'm only semi-familiar with this song I'll have to listen to it again to find out what it's all about!
This April Wine song was a hit at the exact same time as Arlo's City of New Orleans, so that might be the connection you made!
I Dale I Have seen so many fantastic concerts that people today will never see its a shame they never will Music is a grace of enjoyment for us all to many to Pink Floyd was the best
Real honest rock n' roll!
I love this cover as much as the original. When I heard it the other night on the radio, and couldn't believe my ears. Why do some classics not get much airplay, while others have been played to death?
Great classic! The oldies are always the best!
hall and aots
