Annie Lennox is compassionate and generous with her time toward her fellow human beings. She has worked to make a real difference to this world. Makes a nice change from self-absorbed singers who put on an eye-patch to try and look mysterious when actually they just look silly.

Ms. Lennox captures the essence of the song. Whenever I need to cry I put this one on.

My late husband and I saw this the night I told him that I was HIV+. He died of AIDS six years later.

This is one of my faves Cole Porter's songs! It has such a sad and beautiful lyrics and melody! I love this version of Annie's and is one of my faves from her. (I'm a huge fan of Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics).

Now then, let's get to actual feelings: This is not only a beautiful song by someone whom I didn't even know could sing like this, but it is also a very powerful - yet somehow simultaneously gentle - reminder of what AIDS has wracked on actual People... That happy child didn't yet know that he would be an "odd man out", much less that that this strange & unique disease would sweep into our world in the 80's. (Just another reason I want to go back to the 70's.)

Reaches into your soul and touches that place inside. Only managed by a few songs. Sadness and beauty move this song. An essential inclusion on an unforgettable album.

The saddest song ever performed. The slight changes the artist and/or producer made to the melody and the meter elevate this from a melancholy but clever song to an absolute gut punch.

Cole Porter wrote some of the best music ever written. Looking forward to when musicians can learn to write lyrics again. Annie does it justice.

I doubt that anyone will ever come close -- truly he was a genius -- but many modern musicians have their moments. Amy Winehouse had some lovely, poetic, clever lyrics, such as "For you I was aflame" (both "I was on fire because I wanted you so much" and "I was a flame that drew you, moth-like, self-destructive, to me"). And perhaps listen to Elbow's "Puncture Repair" -- again, not anywhere near CP's level, but it has a moment or two:

Sorry there seems to be a lot of confusion because Roxette passed away and people think it's Annie and,are saying RIP.

Every time I say goodbye to my loved one I still cry my eyes out and Anniies version does it  for me every time. A truly great artiste. Thank you for sharing this wonder.

Hell's teeth! Is this wonderful, or what? I love the music of Annie Lennox but her singing this song is the first time I've choked with emotion. She goes up even further in my estimation. So good, so good.

Annie Lennox said in an interview that she had just had a miscarriage when she recorded this for the HIV-Aids Tribute album / Red/Hot and Blue all the songs were covers of Cole Porters music ..This song still gives me chills !

I always liked Annie Lennox. I never knew she could do Cole Porter . This is another side of her that I never heard . I wish he had done more would like to listen to it . I do know the story behind it .

The home movies projected onto the screen are actually home movies of Derek Jarman as a child. Annie is an only child.

Thank you so much for showing this. I saw it many years ago and it made me cry, and it still does. The 2 little kids are like my own 2, all grown up now and gone their separate ways.
