Animals, The - Going Down Slow Lyrics

I have had my fun if I never get well no more.
I have had my fun if I never get well no more.
All of my health is failing;
Lord, I'm going down slow,

I'm going down slow.
Please write my mother and tell her the shape I'm in.
Please write my mother and tell her the shape I'm in.
Tell her to pray for me,
Forgive me for my sin,
For all of my sin.

On the next train south, look for my clothes back home.
On the next train south, look for my clothes back home.
'Cause all of my health is failing;
Lord, I'm going down slow,
I'm going down slow.

All of my health is failing;
Lord, I'm going down slow,
I'm going down slow.

Feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow.
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow.
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow.
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow.
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow.

Animals, The Going Down Slow Comments
  1. M.... F....

Eric had a great bluesy voice , Chas fantastic on bass , John steady on drums , Hilton not bad and Alan great playing with his organ

  2. D.... M....

No one told us in the sixties that this was BLUES which was pretty well ignored.....Thanks Animals Yardbirds....Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac John Mayall Chicken Shack etc!

  3. U.... 6....

Animalism is, without a doubt, the Animals best album of the original lineup, and for me. It's the essential Animals release.

    U.... 6....

    I am with you Alban

  4. D.... K....

Wooow, this Blues and this Great Voice.😘😘😘

  5. .... ....

    Эрик Бёрдон - это что-то!

  6. S.... ....

    Great Whitebluesband.

  7. S.... ....

    WHİTE BLUESBAND!

  8. T.... S....

One of their 3 best blues performances of all time as a band, IMHO, along with House..., and Lonely Avenue. Probably Dave Rowberry's best individual performance in his brief stint as keyboard player, and Hilton Valentine absolutely nails the guitar riffs with that classic Rickenbacker sound.

  9. S.... P....

    The voice of a legend!!!!!

  10. c.... c....

  11. K.... P....

    Oh damn baby...

  12. K.... P....

Yea baby...we could go down slow...but not for long..lol

  13. J.... E....

Hilton Valentine is one of the most underrated, understated blues guitarists of all time and this track proves it.

  14. E.... G....

Great version, loved it when it came out, great telecaster solo by Hilton Valentine! Eric is a great Blues singer :)

  15. m.... w....

this song was by little walter

  16. G.... T....

The Animals were a great blues group. Sorry they broke up so soon. Over what? Money.

  17. T.... D....

I sitting here crying in my beer after hearing Eric and his voice tear this song up!, the blues baby!, once again great job Animals, oh hell I think I put another quarter in the jukebox and play it again cause I'm in the dog house already with mama, be sleeping outside tonite if you know what I mean.

  18. M.... ....

The older I get, the more I adore Animals

  19. G.... T....

The best version ever of this great song.

  20. c.... ....

People ought to check out some of Eric's newer stuff--like------- 44 blues -Over the border-Factory girl ---

  21. A.... L....

Guitar on this track is phenomenal. On top of Eric Burdon's truly phenomenal voice.

  22. V.... L....

Et Je suis le Valerie Je ame aussi la music de The animals !

  26. H.... K....

There is no better version of this song .

    H.... K....

+Hunter Kitto Um, I think Ray Charles might argue with that (if he could).

    H.... K....

listen to Free's version on their debut album "Tons of Sobs"

    H.... K....

I have listened to it and I like it. In fact Free is one of my favourite bands and Paul Rogers is also a favourite ....It just isn't as good as the Animals version and that is my opinion and to me it's the only opinion I need . It's a great song and I have listened to many versions . Thanks for your input .

    H.... K....

Duane Allman's is my favorite version, but I cant find it for a decent quality :(

    H.... K....

    Bobby Blue Bland !!!

  27. w.... ....

164k have enjoyed a top tier youtube submission. Not sure this is the best blues song ever,  not sure it isn't !!   3 of you must have slipped with your keyboard fingers

  28. s.... ....

Today is Aug. 23rd, 2015 and I just heard this for the first time. Where have I been?? To think I could died and never had the pleasure of hearing it. Thanks for sharing:)

    s.... ....

    Good Ears!

    s.... ....

    stringalong12 same here!

  29. c.... ....

Fantastic blues at its best. Can't say more.

  30. J.... N....

Oh yeah, that sweet blues guitar solo about halfway through and Price is sublime on the organ.

    J.... N....

+Jim Nesta Price had left the group by the time this was recorded. It was the last album by the old Animals. You can thank Dave Roweberry for the great organ work, and good old Hilton Valentine (much too neglected!) came through with the great guitar solo. Hard to find on CD, but it is on a CD called "Animals Blues Years" RB 037 Rock-In-Beat Records out of Germany. www.rockinbeat.de

    J.... N....

+Jim Nesta Dave Rowberry on keyboards.

    J.... N....

Another example of the exemplary guitar work of Hilton Valentine is on their version of "See See Rider" another 1966 classic Animals track, originally on the flip side of "Help Me Girl" and features a scorching solo by Hilton Valentine. Released by Decca after the original Animals had split, but they very sneakily titled it as being by Eric Burdon & The Animals, despite it being recorded by the original Animals (post Alan Price)

  31. k.... l....

so true everyone's gone down slow at one time or another - some of us perpetually, but Eric just makes it sound/makes it feel like it means more.

  32. T.... H....

More blues and soul never came out of a British boy than here.  The band caught the vibe and the guitar solo in classic.  This is totally in the groove and will stand the test of time.

  33. S.... E....

One of my all time favorite blues guitar solos from the 1960's!  For a 22 year old white kid from the UK, this solo is precise, and not sloppy anywhere. And it builds, and builds and builds, and then the crescendo slips right back into Eric's voice beautifully. I could listen to this song everyday for the rest of my life!!! ANIMALISM!!!! YAY!!!!

    S.... E....

Yeah, Hilton Valentine is a hot guitarist and has never gotten any recognition...he should be on those top guitarist lists. Beyond Eric Burdon's amazing voice, that organ sound. Perfect for this song, sounds like the South on a sweltering summer night.

    S.... E....

myrrhfishify I agree he is a great player, but not to be at top. Cannot say the same abou the organ, he is my favourite :3

  34. S.... B....

    mucaperetz they are famous!!!!

  35. S.... B....

    That voice, omg!!

  36. S.... B....

    I love these guys!!!!

  37. c.... e....

    IM A ANIMAL !!!.

  38. J.... E....

not many people now how great this song really is

  39. M.... S....

What a great way to start my day. . .listening to Eric Burdon & the Animals circa 1966.  Ahhhh….yes, memories, I was 18 at the time.

  40. .... ....

    the bes blues voice ever!!!

  41. J.... K....

Lordy , Lordy this is so badass !!

  42. J.... H....

Good to see the love-fest for Eric - it's deserved. But let's not forget the superb musicianship. AP one of the greats (still performing), Hilton Valentine very much part of the Animals sound and Chas and John a solid rhythm section.

  43. h.... h....

    wore this vinyl out

  44. T.... ....

    Love Eric Burdon....so amazing

  45. I.... ....

    This Animalism thing is contagious

  48. I.... ....

    Mind = blown

  49. o.... ....

Remember when our parents used to say "What's that noise your listening to?" As I sit here listening to this all I can think is they don't make music like this anymore. Oh God I've turned into my mother. Someone shoot me.

The Animals are one of the most underrated bands ever. Their music is incredible!

  79. T.... ....

The reather author is St. Louis Jimmy Oden, who also did Soon Forgetten, which the Stones covered, as well as many other great songs but rarely known by his versions

  80. r.... 4....

Prices version makes me think of tracks like I beleive from 1965.
