Amos, Tori - After All Lyrics

Please trip them gently, they don't like to fall
Oh, by Jingo
There's no room for anger, we're all very small
Oh, by Jingo

We're painting our faces
And dressing in thoughts from the skies, from paradise
They think that we're holding a secretive ball
Won't someone invite them
They're just taller children
That's all, after all

Man is an obstacle, sad as the clown
Oh, by Jingo
So hold on to nothing, he won't let you down
Oh, by Jingo

Some people are marching together
And some on their own, quite alone
Others are running, the smaller ones crawl
But some sit in silence
They're just older children
That's all, after all

I sing with impertinence
Shading impermanent chords with my words
I've borrowed your time
I'm sorry I called
The thought just occurred that we're nobody's children
After all, after all

Live till your rebirth, and do what you will
Oh, by Jingo
Forget all I've said, please bear me no ill
Oh, by Jingo

After all

Listened to this a lot after 9/11, when it came out. "So hold on to nothing" - seemed appropriate.

  2. T.... F....

I’m a huge Bowie fan, but Tori’s cover gives me goosebumps! I wish it was easier to find (it doesn’t seem to be on iTunes or Spotify last time i checked).

  3. P.... ....

A smart cover. Not one his well known songs and it suits her style.

  4. P.... ....

    Astonishing.

  5. H.... S....

Good cover of a not well known song of Bowie

  6. w.... ....

    Love it..

  7. D.... C....

when I listen his music, I feel with him

  9. E.... R....

    I found it,(2.2016).

  10. A.... ....

She should have done the tribute for the Grammy stooges.

Endlich jemand, der dieses großartige Stück zu würdigen weiß...

  16. v.... ....

I would listen to Tori cover Bowie songs all day. She makes everything so beautiful.

  17. P.... s....

Fabouless..only tori can get away with this cause she clearly love the original ;)

  18. C.... R....

the last 'after all' kills me

  19. N.... C....

This is really cool. very chilled. Very hard to do and keep a certain magic. She does it.

  20. A.... ....

I love this song and I think she does a fabulous job... I do prefer Bowie singing it, but that's my personal opinion. I love it though. It's hard to do a cover and still get the emotion across because it's well.. not your song. But she did amazing. :)

  21. G.... G....

@verbaluk1 hahaha yeah... including the cover of the album the man who sold the world

  22. j.... m....

I think this song needs to be the anthem for Every child actor the entertainment industry has chewed up and spit -out.... thx for posting

  23. k.... b....

aawww man.bowie, tori, reznor, numan, kate bush, you've just gotta love these guys.

  24. v.... ....

@kruspy Too girly? Because of course the original was recorded during Bowie's excessively masculine phase...

  25. r.... ....

It's a beautifully introspective cover. Plaudits to Tori for doing it so well. :)

I wonder if by "The thought just occurred that we're nobody's children" Bowie meant there might be no God.

  26. F.... L....

    This sucks!!

    F.... L....

    Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj you too thanks

  27. E.... "....

I'm a Bowie fan and i like this rendition , thumbs up !!

  28. I.... A....

Why "even when it's a Bowie cover" ?... Too girly, the words lose sense.

  29. H.... C....

    heart-breakingly beautiful

  30. L.... S....

    Good Cover !!!!

  31. L.... ....

Yup. I guess he did, alright.
But I can tell you I mind those remarks a lot less than the idea of distorting an honest opinion because some fans might disaprove. And since I'm not in the habit of attacking artists with below-the-belt remarks (like some artists love doing and getting away with), I really don't get what's the big deal.

  32. I.... ....

I love this arrangement. I love Bowie, but his version doesn't seem to hold the emotion that hers does.

  33. A.... C....

Tori did an exceedingly good interpretation, the sonorous quality of her voice is especially tantalizing. She evokes an ancient high priestess informing all. After All.

  34. L.... ....

    Uhm, bollocks.

And you disagree that she dulled it out?

  35. L.... ....

Not surprising remark... considering in all likelyhood, you know the original version as well as you know me.

  36. L.... ....

    Poor. Dull & endless.

    L.... ....

Bowie will always be in our hearts no matter what stages he went through to finally find himself people should take as look at that like so called bob geldot hiding himself with all his shit miss you Bowie xx
