America - Today's The Day Lyrics
Hold me close
You turn nighttime into day
And you're the most
Brightest star that lights my way
'Cause it won't matter anyhow
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
Turn me out
Turn me out on this fine day
'Cause all about
All the people like to play
So come home to me now
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
Oo, oo ...
Hold me close
You turn nighttime into day
And you're the most
Brightest star that lights my way
So come home to me now
'Cause it won't matter anyhow
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day ...

America Today's The Day Comments
The most UNDER-rated band of the 70's!!
Their BEST song in my humble opinion that should have been a MUCH bigger hit than it was.
Gerry and Dewey still perform as America, but there's a hole in the soul without Dan. They remain my favorite soft rock group.
Oh lovely Dan Peek ! You wrote this song !! How I miss you sweet man. Gog bless your soul.
So beautiful wrote Thank you Beautiful DAN PEEK you're truly so lovely.
Miss you so.
Such a beautiful song. Memories of sweeter days gone by. America was one of the greatest groups ever !!!
When a song from your childhood randomly and inexplicably pops into your head. And you haven’t remembered or thought about it for 43 years....The mind works in mysterious ways.
I woke up with this song on my mind thought I find it and play it cheer you up song love it
Definitely I big master piece, with a touch of nostalgic, I love this song and I always will.
♥️♥️LOVELY DAN PEEK♥️♥️
Oh lovely Dan Peek , how I miss you. God bless your sweet soul. Love 🇺🇸♥️
Merica!
This gorgeous song somehow brings back memories that I never had!
I first heard it on grandma's favorite infomercial a few months ago and have loved it ever since.
Beautiful music like this is what keeps me going, no matter how bad things get.
This song is not on their Greatest Hits CD, "History", should be, beautiful song.
Awesome ! Thank you America. Thank you Dan Peek. Rip. ♥️🇺🇸
Contribution-wise, he was by far the least important member of the threesome.
ขอบคุณครับ
Come home to me now! 😁😁😁
Not their best effort, but still a nice lost classic indeed.
A song about Dan Peek’s beloved pet dog. Love you Dan.
Just found out Dan Peek, author & lead singer of this song (according to Wikipedia), died back in 2011. What a shame he never tried or wanted a reunion with Gerry and Dewey.
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG
I always felt, even to this day, that the other two members of America were trying to oust him out of the band, about the time that this song came out.....
Dan Peek wrote and sang this song while he was with America...
He was the ultimate caliber to this group !! RIP Dan....:-(
Love ❤️
Start every day playing this song and the possibilities will be endless.
I love this song!
Clearly they are singing with their heart and soul.
recordando San miguel verano del 75 que memorias wow
Today's The Day May 12 1976 = Peace Of Mind.
Such a great song from Dan..The man was talented!!
GREAT SONG! COME HOME TO ME NOW, WON'T MATTER ANYHOW! LOVE AMERICA!!!
This song just makes you happy and peaceful. Miss those days.
Qué tema tan romántico me da escalofríos escucharlo y solo bellos momentos vienen a mi mente lo mejor del América
Esta canción es para una persona muy especial que rompió mi corazón y lo hizo pedazos pero aún así la amo como a nadie ame
.........A TIMELESS CLASSIC.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a youngster I was fortunate enough to grow up in a city that hosted a ton of live music. My first rock-n-roll concert as a teenager was America in the great city of Pittsburgh, at the Civic Arena, 1976. It was an amazing experience and the first of hundreds to come. From the early 70's to today, America continues to touch the hearts and souls of us all.. Thank you for sharing your talents, your music and your stories with us Dewey, Gerry and Dan (R.I.P)................
Dan Peek.
This song came-out during my junior year in high school. Brings back TONS of memories from that year, including those of the girl I had a major crush on!
I'm definitely glad I remember this song, especially since I haven't heard it played by any station in about 35-40 years.
They bring back so many memories of the good ole days of the 70's
One of America's best songs (and they had a lot of good ones). This should have been a bigger hit in 1978, than it was.
Excuse me....1976
R.I.P. Dan Peek!
Timelessly great
Hideaway was the first album I ever bought. I was about 14 years old . And now it's on my you tube app.
Dan Peek - Rest in peace. You are a legion.
I think you might have meant "Legend" !!
Another summer of 76 favorite with Alan. I still get get misty eyed. I know what a wimp.
People had feelings back then and it was ok. No wimps. Just real people.
I love this song, make sad because remember good times when I was young,
Look at the back of the LP cover of "Hideaway" they are passing a joint while the snow falls around them....! lol
kinda makes me sad too, though I love the song
Dan Peek--great song
Always short, I listen to this vinyl record, and excellent ,, magnificent, I travel in music enjoying, drinking a little service, and extraordinary, congratulations this band that never dies ,,, will always be in our memories, the music, I always remember just good things, I'm always enjoying myself, I embrace these legendary people, and may God enlighten everyone, and the soul of Pekker, who leaves in 2011. Produced by the great George Martin!
That guy it's a genius

Do not, repeat, DO NOT let your best girl out of your sight once you hear this!!
love this song. It brings back my past. it was on a commercial I think too but not sure.
i saw them recently.
Went to the PEABODY in DAYTON BEACH to see them absolutely one great show.
They were in Québec City this summer.
Great song! America love your poetry, music, songs!
Love this song
Awesome song! I’m a huge fan of America and other 70’s bands.
Thinkyouknowmusic on Twitter brought me here.
Preciosa rola a cargo del vocalista Dan Peek; las mejores fueron la de él!
Great song that IMO should've been as huge as their earlier hits like "A Horse With No Name", "Ventura Highway", "Tin Man" "Lonely People" and "Sister Golden Hair"
Dont forget Daisy Jane.
I say this is better than any of those, but my favorite is "Don't Cross the River."
I love America! I saw them live in Ancaster 10 years ago....unforgettable!
Love America for ever!!!
CON ESA CANCION MUERO ME LLEGA AL FONDO DEL ALMA NOS LA BAILABAMOS TAN ROMANTICO MI FIRST LOVE Y YO QUE COMO ME DUELE ESCUCHARLA LA SUFRO PERO ME ENCANTA TIEMPO REGRESA
You know, I heard that this song was about a lost dog that came back, and was found. Making Today, the day that the dog was found. This is an example of great songwriting. Goes to my heart, and this type of stuff is just not heard anymore.
The best song very beautiful
You hear a lot more of "Sister Golden Hair", "Ventura Highway", and "A Horse With No Name".
This is one song you don't hear much on the radio anymore...definitely a lost classic.
Yes indeed.
there was a nice "cover" of this, on the radio, around the time of it's release by America....anyone remember who did it?
PURE LOVE
ASI ES PURE LOVE PARA BAILARLA CON EL SER AMADO QUE RICO
For some reason always when l listen this beautifull song I feel like I'm in Heaven. Love it !!! . Thanks for posting it!
This beatiful song reminds me of my years as a student in my youth and i moved to that wonderful time !
This song has great meaning
Great song, had the honor to see them
Dedicated to Karen, you were crazy but I loved you anyway and this song will always remind me of you......RIP Karen.....
Great composition and performance, made even greater by George Martin producing.
It seems back then artists wrote & sang from the heart ❤. Now, they do it for the money💵💰.
Sadly but so ever true :'-(
Got this album for Christmas 76. Unbeknownst to my sister...I had a copy already. I think I got it exchanged for a copy of America Homecoming. America Hearts is still my favorite.
What a peaceful song!

MUY HERMOSA CANCIÓN DE PEEK
Nítida
#23 pop and#11 album George Martin production 1976
what happened to this group? Do they still exist?
Yeah, they're still around i believe...minus one original member who passed away many years ago. As far as i know they still tour.
America still tours w Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell and their backing band. Dan Peek left the band in 1977 and sadly passed away a few years ago. I saw the current band in concert two years ago - good show.
Yes, they perform occasionally and recently did an "oldies cruise" with other bands. They are still terrific.
they still do about 120 shows a year. OF course, Dan is gone. RIP Mr. Peek.
Waoooooo
Love it. I wish there were more options to see America perform live in the 70s. They did so much, but there seems to be so little of them live. But please remember Music was limited on video in the 70's. The first time I ever saw America was on Burt Sugarman's midnight special back in the early 70's. Gosh I miss those days.
I miss those days too
Thank you for sharing this song.
The need for good music brought me here
Uma obra prima na minha juventude!!!
my new fave song!
entered Cashbox May 15, 1976
no other group is better!!! Where are they performing.....?
Madre mia, tremenda composición de Peek, realmente admirable su sensibilidad y su poder de creacion de melodias tan monstruosamente sensibles, para cortarse las venas, realmente un genio el amigo Peek...
