I got “The Last Unicorn” VHS for my 5th birthday, now it’s almost 30 years later and I still own that copy. This song absolutely ruined me for love songs the rest of my life. I think no love song I’ve ever heard has ever matched up to how perfectly sweet and simple this song feels inside.

Just watched this episode of orville (UK) love this great characters and episodes that have these moments with a great song but also a joke about WTF in text.

All I have to say is all us Prince Lirs usually have a very similar or familiar destiny like his. The love is never allowed to be realized for one reason or another. But that was one of the charms of this movie. Not everyone got the happy ending they desired but needed to have.

Admittedly, The Orville brought me here, as well. As soon as I heard the song playing I started singing along. 'The Last Unicorn' has always been one of my favorite movies, and I passed that legacy on top my children who both expressed "Now I want to watch 'The Last Unicorn'!" Thank you, Todd McFarland, for the nod back to my childhood.

Just watched the newest Episode of "The Orville", where Gordon falls in love with a simulated girl from the 21st century. There's a scene where she's singing a beautiful song in a bar, and I just couldn't remember where I've heard it before. So I just typed in some of the lyrics, and voila: It's from one of my favorite childhood movies, of course 😁

I hadn't watched this movie in decades. But hearing the song on the Orville brought me right back to the 80s. This movie had some amazing songs in it. I actually had a crush on the Unicorn at one point.

Having recently rewatched The last unicorn and then just watched The Orville I knew exactly where the song had come from, made me so happy.

Orville made me cry my eyes out! The Last Unicorn was my first tragedy as a little kid. So when they went up and sang the duet part of the tragic love song...I lost it. T~T Curse my love of tragedies, every song from this movie makes me cry.

I was stunned when I heard this on The Orville's Season 2 Episode 11. I played the Last Unicorn so many times for my children that I knew the song in a heart beat. Oddly, for such a beautiful song, it has not been covered by other artists.

This is so beautiful. I will always love the songs to this film. And wonder how long will it take until I get over the fact that she starts singing the other song "Now that I'm a woman" in the last part of this one, and it fits perfectly into each other. This is real art, it works on so many levels and you have to listen to it a couple of times before you grasp them all.

The Last Unicorn was my favorite movie when I was a smaller chaild.

My sister thought it was creepy, and I agree some parts were but stilllllll.

I love how Almathea's song "Now that I'm a woman" merges with Prince Liir's song. Her song sounded sad until she fell in love with him and found a feeling she never knew before, for being so old and wise love really changed her as always happens.

I had a crush on Lady Amalthea when i was 4 years old seeing this movie and dug her when i was a kid and a teen! her and Lee the playboy model bounty hunter alien from Critters 2 (remember her folks) were the sexiest transformed characters i've seen when i was a kid.

Lady Amalthea easily rivals humanzied versions of the MLP ladies from fanarts in terms of humanized unicorns and she is on par with other fantasy beauties like Taarna from Heavy Metal, Red Sonja, Teegra from Fire and Ice, Leia from Star Wars and other fantasy beauties you have to admit.

I didn't have a crush on the unicorn but always liked the design of Lady Amalthea and felt unicorns must come from Iscandar. Admit to crushing on Leader Desslok from Star Blazers which was on American tv a few years before The Last Unicorn came out, so, yeah, blue aliens for me. Not ashamed.☺️

I feel dumb for admitting this but I'm crying right now! This was my *favorite* movie as a little kid and I still watch it from time to time. It's one of the few cartoons I've seen that is actually really dramatic, very deep and beautiful with more grown up like themes. Anyway, this song and the way they sang it together was beautiful

I think the adjective I know to describe Prince Lir most accurately is, 'guileless' which is probably what most folks, including myself, find appealing about Lir as both a soldier and ruler, not to mention as a man (i imagine that has to be appealing to women, so wthe idea of a guileless woman is appealing to me as a male). Honesty is attractive and guilelessness is the overall application of honesty in every aspect of one's life. Thumbs up!

Disagree, it's more complicated! It may often happen that a man loves a girl like this, but he's not her type. At the end of the day, both sexes are choosy and don't just take the next best that loves them like crazy but someone they also find likeable themselves.

@nightswimmer99 Yeah it made no sense how The Unicorn saved a dog but not Lir on his deathbed.

I am thinking about writing my own continuation of the Last Unicorn that has some elements of Two Hearts but is more expanded. If you like I can tell you about it via PM.

It was a story about mortality, essentially. If you don't like Lir's end you probably didn't understand that.

It still makes no sense. Why would she save a dog but not Lir if it was truly about mortality then both would have died as nothing except the Deathless ones escape Thanatos's grasp. However since she saved the dog it would have only made sense that she saved Lir as well.
