America - Tall Treasures Lyrics

Golden rings and hair tied with ribbon
Early spring when winter's forgiven
Laughing past pleasures warm by the fire
Come inside

Silver vase, take a drink flower petal
Whistling songs like steam from the kettle
Carry silence like driftwood that rides
On the tide, on the tide, on the tide

Tall treasures, large as Alaska
There forever, never put out to pasture
Then the night will fall
Bringing peace to all
Darkness there together

Soft light bells and tea, draw the curtain
China cups, some shatter for certain
Laughin past pleasures warm by the fire
Come inside

Tall treasures, large as Alaska
There forever, never put out to pasture
Red river runs here beside us
Grey morning will never divide us

mdhunter - thanks for posting the lyrics to all these America songs. Much appreciated.

  21. i.... b....

As you said,an absolute gem!Great band,so underrated.Thank for uploading this.

  22. P.... D....

No disrespect to Gerry or Dan, but Dewey Bunnell created that quintessential America sound. What's more, his credibility as a songwriter lasted much longer than the usual two or three albums. Listen to Catch That Train (from the Alibi album), or Young Moon (Hourglass). Very eclectic, but somehow seamless -all the way from Riverside and Sandman back in '71.

    P.... D....

Yes; Once I mentioned on the Orkut that Dan was almost invisible in the group, regarding compositions, but he was essential for America. No need to tell you how criticized my opinion was.

    P.... D....

@Eliane Vaccavo Hi my friend. I agree with you. Dan Peek was essential for America , but Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell too. I was very sad when Dan Peek left the group.

  23. W.... H....

Their best song, probably, and one of the least known...

  24. F.... F....

Cornwallblank75, you've done it again! I don't know who you are but I always listen to your music posts 'cause I'm also a huge fan of America. I'm also amazed to learn that you also knew many of the band's "never heard" songs. Thanks for posting by the way. Keep it up!

  25. t.... ....

Contact me asdasd30380...i have been a fan since 1971 and i was not even 10 yet. I do no like the 80's and 90's America but I am still a fan...I do love Back Pages. So if you are so intrigued I will speak with you.

  26. l.... ....

wow, really?... what format are you speaking of?... HERE & NOW is easily their most 'back to their roots' album put out in decades ( and i mean early 70s)...IMO. Perhaps you are looking for a style more similar to their 80s/90s work

  27. W.... W....

Dan left, but his heart was with God. But these guys went on and did Live, then Silent Letter, then Alibi, then View From The Ground, then Your Move, then Perspective, then after that a whole lot of other albums with their former hits. Including the album Hour Glass which had Hope and Young Moon, and the rest that weren't hits. Then they went on and did other albums that never made it. And STILL do original recordings that baffle me why they aren't popular..... Im so confused as to this.

  28. W.... W....

I keep commin back to cornwallblank 75. Why is this? Whoever you are, can u contact me?? [email protected] if you are a real America fan, you will get with me. I've got some real genuine questions regarding America, and I hope you can discuss your opinions with me. - M Warren. You keep commin up in my searches for America songs. Im just like u. This band has my heart and soul even to this day... Mike R.

  29. t.... ....

I totally forgot about this one...wow! You guys were really ecclectic. I had this album. I drew Gerry's pic over and over, and still have them.

  30. l.... ....

Great Bunnell tune finds him in fine form here in 1979 on their first release as a Duo.

  31. l.... ....

I don't know if id go that far, both those albums were very good, but it certainly was AS good as them, despite the loss of Dan. Silent Letter was an excellent return after the hiatus where Dan left, but I agree, their sound was never the same after the split. Dan was integral to the writing, 3 part harmonies, musicianship and was the spirit/soul of the band. Only Here & Now from 2007 had any resemblance to the 70s work. One can only hope we get more of the same in the future.

  32. t.... ....

My No. 1 favourite of all America's songs

  33. E.... R....

Dan Dan, where are you... jeje!

    E.... R....

He's gone. Dan Peek died in his sleep of fibrinous pericarditis on July 24, 2011, at age of 60 in his home in Farmington, Missouri.

  34. S.... ....

Just bought the Silent Letter album and love it! Vocals are amazing on this one!

  35. w.... ....

The Silent Letter album was excellent. In my opinion, it was better than the later America albums with Dan Peek (Hideaway and Harbor), although Dan's presence is sorely missed on Silent letter. They were not the same after he left.
