I wasn't even born in this generation but I have to admit that classical music were far better than any modern songs in today's generation. I'm grateful to my dad for introducing his music generation to me. I was only 4 when I started to listen to oldies but goodies music and now I'm 29 and yet all those memories were fresh like it was only yesterday.

First time I heard this song I was 11. I recorded it on a cassette tape.

No offense to Ian Thomas fans but I like this better than the Ian Thomas version. America gave it a fresh and younger sound.

They are great in concert, just wish they would add this one to the set list..

I love this song because of the lyrics and the melody. I don't know that there is an original version and that it is Ian Thomas. Growing up in the Philippines in the 80's, this song is very popular but it's the America's version that is always being played, and that is why i like their version. No offense to Ian Thomas and his followers.

I was there with you Doc. When this song came out in 82’ I was dating my very first girlfriend. Although we broke up in 83’ songs like this brings back fond memories but also sad for what music has become.

I’m 51 years old now and have my own family. Although we broke up 37 years ago, my first girlfriend and I still keep in touch and remain good friends.

It sure took me back to my special time in the early 80s.

If you listen to his original recording from 1977 it will definitely move you. There are just some songs that, well, . . . listen to it & find out for yourself.

I wish all the girls to know that sometimes a man can love you, but love in a way that he knows that it's better to keep you free so you can find someone that will make you happy; don't judge the quiet guy and don't think he just want to play with your feelings or that he's insecure. Sometimes he just have a long term vision.

1981 on Capitol;  played this one a lot on the old KFTW Fredericktown at night.  Close your eyes (not while driving, of course) and let this song play out in the imagination.  Imagine that lovely girl and how nice it was in a time now long gone by.

make that '82;  we got the LP as an advance copy.

Us old radio folks have a tendency to be drawn to the songs that weren't huge hits, because we tired so easy of the played over and over big hits... this was a great one...

Well, America didn't stray too much from the original! If they had rearranged it for their usual acoustic guitar style, then it would have added something different. I put both versions in my America playlist.

I love America but they aren't even in Ian's league on this one. It's a nice clean version, no soul though.
