America - Only In Your Heart Lyrics

Mary, have you seen better days?
And will you find different ways?
And does he really mean that much to your heart?
Carry, all of the weight you can, find another man
And lead him directly there to the source
You've got to chart his course

'Cause it is only in your heart
This thing that makes you want to
Start it all again
(La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la)

Wake up from an elusive dream
You've got to change the scene
It's getting so hard to see to the end
Break down, all of the walls you can
You need a helping hand
I'm sure there's someone there just for you
He's trying to make it, too

'Cause it is only in your heart
This thing that makes you want to
Start it all again
(La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la)

Only in your heart
This thing that makes you want to
Start it all again
(La, la, la, la)

You can't disregard your friends
But life gets so hard when you reach the end

Mary, have you seen better days?
(Mary, have you seen better days?)
Mary, have you seen better days?
(Mary, have you seen better days?)
Mary, have you seen better days?
(Mary, have you seen better days?)
Mary, have you seen better days?
(Mary, have you seen better days?)

Ah, the 70's. All my dreams and life possibilities still lay before me. How i miss those days, and a song like this. Beautiful. America was such and underrated group.

    Great early 70s tune there!!!

  8. G.... I....

Great composition!!! I have near of 30 years since I heard of this song,....
This composition whenever I listen to it, I feel that something new I discover. When the chorus enters the minute 1:44 ... and the feeling of travel to minot 2:12 is fantastic ...... These guys did Progressive Rock.

  9. c.... c....

What can I say, I'm biased, my favorite group of all-time, so I what I have to say might be over the top, but they are clearly one of the most underrated bands, with Peek, and then later without him. creative, soulful, and genuine, always speaking to the truth of the experience. it's just true form in every way, both lyrically and musically, that's it touches you, and why you never get tired of it---it was inside you all along.

  11. N.... G....

Best all time ever! So many memories!

  15. M.... H....

If I were ever stranded somewhere for the rest of my life, I think if I were given a choice of music, it would be America, Chicago, the Who, CSN and Yes. If only one group, then America.

    M.... H....

Will you marry me? HAHA! Same here.

  16. P.... ....

Top Ten under rated classic rock songs in my book.

  17. P.... J....

Still saddens me the 30th time i listen to it as the 1st time i did. It's just so beautiful.

  21. A.... K....

Anybody know the name of this guitar pedal in the solo, this backward sound effect? I heard it in a lot of songs, for example "The Test" by Chemical Brothers, "The Shadowlands" by Ryan Adams or "Give It Away" by RHCP. Man i need this sound!

    A.... K....

That would be literally backwards guitar. Recorded normally, tape flipped and played back backwards.

    A.... K....

    it's called reverse tape looping..
what you got to remember after the Beatles Sir George Martin produced the bulk of the early to mid-seventies America..
which is why it has that strawberry Fields and more kind of turnaround.

    A.... K....

According to Gerry Beckley, it was a backwards tape of the band playing after session drummer extroadinaire, Hal Blaine, kept playing because he thought the song should continue a little bit longer.

  22. G.... c....

This is one of the most beautiful song I've ever heard, this group was one of the best 70's band ever!!!

    G.... c....

Gregory carson I need you is my favorite

    A-Z Lyrics A AMERICA Lyrics
    "Homecoming" (1972)

    m.... ....

America is the best band ever I own every album

  27. J.... ....

Love America and always have :)

  28. S.... L....

What is the meaning of this song, exactly?

    S.... L....

+Sirenia Lilit Lost love and scared of new love.....starting over again, I think.

  29. B.... H....

Great tune!  Excellent production values, too.  Sadly, it got next to no airplay, managing to reach only #62 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.  It didn't even make it onto the Adult Contemporary chart ─ really weird, because I think it was a natural for that type of radio station.

    B.... H....

Bill Harding One of my favorites! An album gem!

    B.... H....

It got some airplay in our area. But they never said who did it. I thought it was Paul McCartney & Wings at first. Too bad it didn't chart higher. Great tune.

  30. D.... M....

I forgot how much I loved this song-- wow

    D.... M....

+David MacDougal Gets better with age....

  31. e.... ....

The song has a very strong Beatles vibe.

    e.... ....

George Martin produced some of Americas albums

    e.... ....

70's Beach Boys "All This Is That" vibe...

    e.... ....

It's very McCartney! Which is a good thing obviously.

  35. q.... ....

This is one of America's most beautiful songs. The instrumental at the end is divine

    q.... ....

    Awesome ending

    q.... ....

    qquark99 awesome ending

    q.... ....

@George Chahine and beginning and middle

    q.... ....

produced by Sir George Martin straight Out of The Beatles catalog..probably the closest he ever came to recreating a Beatles song without John Paul George Ringo the ending of this tune as it fades out and comes back

  36. G.... F....

thefinal and takeme I bought in yes.....choice

  37. p.... v....

me encanta esta canción America un gran grupo

  38. R.... ....

this is real 70s music very fantastic :D

  39. B.... H....

The album version does not have the final four seconds of the ending included on the 45-RPM single - which should have charted a lot higher than 62 in my opinion.

  40. L.... L....

    Their best non-hit song

  41. c.... ....

    Great song....love those lyrics....!!!!

  42. M.... ....

Only charted 62, but great song from a great group. I heard it played on a unique (but sadly short-lived) format back in 1973, WIOQ (formerly WFIL-FM) in Philly when it was called "Popular 102 - Gold and New." The music director would sift through pop albums and play the tracks he liked--"album oriented pop," if you will. If you ever come across the WFIL-FM or W102 album collections in yard sales or thrift shops, this was the station, and they were produced by this guy.

    M.... ....

That where I heard it? The DJ was Tony Pigg

  43. S.... P....

One of the great songs from America that I could listen to forever. Such a talented group.

  44. m.... g....

  50. y.... ....

soundslike "a day in the life" intro

  51. J.... A....

This is my favorite song they do.

  52. m.... ....
