America - Cast The Spirit Lyrics
When you feel down and you've nobody to turn to
When you feel you're about to give up
The sun goes down and darkness surrounds you
And it's runnin' dry in your lovin' cup
If it's in your body, then let it out
Put out the fire, let it cool down
If it's in your tears, then let it drown
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
You can't ignore the feeling inside you
In your mind you're without a friend
The spirit is there, it's in every doorway
Cast the spirit, cast it out
If it's in your body, then let it out
Put out the fire, let it cool down
If it's in your tears, then let it drown
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
When you feel down and have nobody to turn to
You say to yourself, why can't it be
The sun goes down and darkness surrounds you
You feel you want to be free
Cast the spirit, cast it out
If it's in your body, then let it out
Put out the fire, let it cool down
If it's in your tears, then let it drown
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo, oo
Cast the spirit
Cast the spirit
Cast the spirit ...

America Cast The Spirit Comments
Reminds me of The Alan Parsons Project, of all people.
Listening to this on the Your Move LP, original release. Amazing, as are all the songs on that record.
America liked Russ Ballard. And he was good! That's probably why they chose him to do 2 albums with them. This song was just another America song that got thrown in the trash. I was appauled at something that went wrong. Can someone tell me what it was?
Ahhh, America , the Russ Ballard period...1982-84'? America remerges from what seemed like a deep commercial slumber to hit the adult contemporary charts, however briefly, with Magic, Border and this? A strange period for them that had them performing light drum machine propelled rockers and ballads penned primarily by other artists. No breakthru albums here, but some memorable cuts have stood the test of time.
I don't think it sounds like another version of the Border it's just another great song America the band has recorded
It's one of my fav's from "Your Move".
It's unfortunate of it's fate. They were hoping to recapture the popularity that their last single by Russ (You Can Do Magic) would bring them back to the top of the charts. "Cast the Spirit" was cut as a single, but it just wasn't to be. Still a grand effort though.
..........Or The Border sounds like another version of Cast The Spirit seeing as the latter is about five years younger. Both songs are on America's Your Move album, but Russ Ballard previously released Cast The Spirit in 1979 on the album At The Third Stroke.
I put both versions in my America playlist.
Well, when I 1st heard Russ's version on At The Third Stroke, I actually could envision America doing this. It fits.
