Allman Brothers Band, The - Ramblin' Man Lyrics

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man,
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can.
And when it's time for leavin',
I hope you'll understand,
That I was born a ramblin' man.

My father was a gambler down in Georgia,
And he wound up on the wrong end of a gun.
And I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus
Rollin' down highway 41.

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man,
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can.
And when it's time for leavin',
I hope you'll understand,
That I was born a ramblin' man.

I'm on my way to New Orleans this mornin',
Leaving out of Nashville, Tennessee,
They're always having a good time down on the bayou, Lord
Them Delta women think the world of me.

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man,
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can.
And when it's time for leavin',
I hope you'll understand,
That I was born a ramblin' man.

[Repeat and Fade]
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man...

A #2 hit for The Allman Brothers in the Fall of October 1973. It went to #1 on the Cash Box charts and to #12 on the Adult Contemporary charts. It went to #7 in Canada and to #15 on their AC charts. It went to #40 in Australia. I saw Gregg Allman on May 8, 1988, at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. Long Shot, a Southern Rock tribute band from Virginia Beach, opened.

I'm a 58 year old Black man living in San Diego CA. I was rewatching "The Exorcist ", & this song came on in an early scene. I had to hear it. I grew up in New Haven Ct. 1960's-1990's & my mother would always listen to the Oldies radio station. This song was a favorite in New Haven in the 70's & 80's. I had NO IDEAL who the artist were .After the movie I used YouTube to find the song. I know squat about the Allman Brothers, ( I think some members may have died in a plane crash.) But, I L-O-V-E THIS SONG!!!! It reminds me of New Haven & Mom cooking & cleaning in the 70's & 1980's.

    D.... k....

    New haven

    D.... k....

You might be thinking of Lynyrd Skynyrd? They lost members in a plane crash...

    D.... k....

@chris westerfield Facts like he was just telling a simple story like why do you have to be so rude for?

    D.... k....

That is exactly where I heard this song the first time and had to look it up. Awesome song.💪💪💪💪

    D.... k....

Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident and Berry Oakley also died in a separate motorcycle accident a year later in 72. You are thinking of Lynyrd Skynyrd who has multiple members die in a plane crash. Great song, I enjoyed your comment, cheers!

  28. M.... H....

Listening to this after Trump's press conference.

    M.... H....

The Allmans spoke so much more clearly with their guitars than President Blubber Butt does with his mouth.

  29. A.... H....

One of the greatest guitar solos of all time.

  30. B.... J....

  38. J.... R....

The description box says it was composed in 1973 but released in 1989🤨

    J.... R....

This specific mastering might've been released in 1989. Re-releases often add in small changes to distinguish them from previous releases.

    J.... R....

Exactly what the other comment said. Re-masters and I'd imagine they played this in G, although it could be been sped up to G#

    J.... R....

    makes no sense

  39. M.... G....

Father Karrass conveying his feelings over a brew.

  40. J.... K....

I feel like this song would have never been made if Duane didn't die. No shade, it's an incredible song. His style was much different though... this is much different than his stuff.

    J.... K....

Jenni K. I understand this is awesome I mean ramblin man is awesome

    J.... K....

This is definitely a Dicky tune, for sure.

    J.... K....

Yeah, it's certainly a great song. Just don't think if Duane had survived this is the direction they would have taken.

  41. F.... ....
