Allman Brothers Band, The - Just Ain't Easy Lyrics

You ride on down the same old street you've seen a thousand times,
That overflows with neon lights and enormous signs.
My God, how you want to leave there. Well, well.
Your head severely poundin' from the night before.
Baby, you just keep goin' back, goin' back for more.
Cause midnight's callin'. Well, well.
You want so bad to leave this whirlwind storm.
But you can't find no place to grab on.
So 'round and 'round you go again, and it just ain't easy.
You want so bad to leave this whirlwind storm.
But you can't find no place to grab on.
So 'round and 'round you go again, and it just ain't easy.
No, it just ain't easy.
Lovely ladies all dressed in silk and lace.
While you're there, oh, it seems like such a lovely place.
But when you leave there,
You got your hat down on your face. Well, well.
But oh, when you leave there, got your hat down on your face, well, well.
Ohh, when you leave there, you got your hat pulled down on your face, well.

  30. s.... p....

Hasn't anyone noticed that Gregg is giving us a rare insight into his life in this song?
He was an addict both to drugs and sex and those lyrics tell the tale, very very powerfully.
Especially " When your leaving, you got your hat down on your face...well well"... says it all.
He is literally pouring out his soul here, the torture of the lure and temptation to the bright lights and the ladies in silk and lace, then comes the shame and the guilt...well well .

  31. C.... P....

  57. S.... T....

This song takes me back to the days of my addiction. Gregg's vocal is on the money. Been sober a good while now. God was watching over my foolishness. Anyway this is a fine album. CD at Amazon is at a good price. Eat a Peach for Peace.....
    .

    S.... T....

I also relate to this song. Been there a past part of my life .been sober now 21 years.by the grace of God. Thank you Gregg ALLMAN. For such a powerful song rest easy my only true friend. Missed but not FORGOTTEN..thank for being honest

    S.... T....

@Linda Hanley These were the worst of his addiction days...he disease was killing him at this point. But, he was young and strong, and he has such a beautiful voice...so, not yet for the clean and focused Gregory...though, this goes to show, he was able to function....except this one show...at the Capitol Theater in New Jersey, he fell asleep almost o his B3 singing Whipping post, I believe...stormy monday too...

    C.... B....

    agree, absolutely

    C.... B....

Just lost a good friend. Listening to this and finding a little comfort. For me, "It's Not My Cross to Bear," will always be #1. As I age though, I find it a waste of time ranking songs and bands.Too much to choose from.

  68. N.... l....

  75. J.... K....

this was on first album released after long hiatus due to losing Dwayne

    J.... K....

+James there were 4 Lps recorded by them including this one, after Duane died in 1971 . Hardly a hiatus.

  76. r.... ....

This is why I came here.

  77. H.... H....

    great music!

  78. K.... M....

Everything matched up on this one. The voice, the lyrics, and the music are flawless. Real rare track when you think about it.

    K.... M....

Kyle McCartt not by Allman brothers rarely do they miss

    K.... M....

Agreed. There is a version that is live from 4/20/79 that has more energy, it's a live version, though and it is great. THIS version, however, is very clear (you can hear every genius word) and the music is right on the note....it's a clean studio version. Kyle, check out the version I mentioned above at the Capitol...there are 3, make sure it's the one from 4/5....I KNOW you'll love it. I think you will, anyway....

    K.... M....

Agreed. GA's voice wasn't singing the blues, it was confessing 'em.

  79. B.... ....

    RIP Dan.

  80. H.... M....

    One of his very best!

  81. J.... S....

One Of Gregory's best vocals.. a voice like no other. Damn he was good, still is good, but he was in his prime on this one. Takes me back.

    J.... S....

+Julia S Imagine if DA had been alive during this time

    J.... S....

    +David Turner
I think it surpasses the imagination had Duane been around during this period. His input would have been the pinnacle. As good as the ABB was in this period, Duane's presence would have brought them to highs not thought possible.

    J.... S....

With Duane the Stones and Beatles would have been second and third

    J.... S....

No disrespect to Stones and Beatle fans, however I see no comparison between them and the ABB, with or without Duane. Like Gregg so famously said " There is no such thing as English or British blues." It's that bluesy bedrock sound that made the ABB the best of the best, in my opinion.
Gregg's ability to vocalize and take control of that famous B-3 to grab you by the balls and shake you to the core is something the Stones nor the Beatles ever had the cacacity to do.

    J.... S....

Strong comment. As rock emerged, Beatles and Stones were captured and manipulated in many ways. I see the ABB as something far more pure, something that could not really be contained, manipulated, or held back. All three bands are surreal, and depending on moods, I'm sure we call on each one to soothe our souls. But damn, they are fucking good!

  82. S.... R....

Song reminds me when I was living downtown in the city an when I used to walk the streets down to the strip bars . The city was dying , once a thriving area in the 40's but when I lived there in 79' it had some nice bars to hang at , now a tourist trap .

    S.... R....

+Dan Reese Reminds me of a seriously rough patch I was going through...it was the perfect soundtrack for the time. In a time when no one seemed to hear me, this song assured me that someone else had been where I was.

    S.... R....

@Clifton Isaacs We all been there brother , some time in our lives, though many live with a silver spoon nowadays never left home at 35 yrsold, never been down an out .Too bad 4 them LOL

  83. C.... D....

This is just one of those songs, you turn out the lights, light a candle, grab your woman and get lost in the moment.

  84. h.... ....

    18,000?  thats all?

  85. h.... ....

17.000? only?  this is pure gold

  86. K.... C....

2;29 is one of the best notes on guitar I've heard, sounds to me bending notes..so pretty, so smooth, sends me into guitar ecstasy. Love me some Dickey Betts guitar playing...

  87. K.... J....

I'm a huge guitar playing fan. Mr Bette is one of my favorites n this song has some awesome guitar leads in it. So much passion

A True Gem of a Rock Song! (okay, a blues song)...

  99. H.... Y....

I don't know about you folks, but this COULD be the best song Greg ever wrote. When I'm feeling like s**t, all I need to do is put this b***h on, and everything looks a whole lot better. Amen.

  100. d.... ....

One of the least appreciated absolutely outstanding LPs I can think of. I spent a day driving Angeles Crest Highway and listened to it twice.
