Allman Brothers Band, The - High Cost Of Low Living Lyrics

You're the life of the party, everybody's host
Still you need somewhere you can hide
All your good time friends
And your farewell to has-beens
Lord knows, just along for the ride

You think you're a survivor
But boy, you better think twice
No one rides for nothin'
So, step up and pay the price

It's the high cost of low livin'
Ain't it high time, you turn yourself around?
Yeah, the high cost of low livin'
Is bound to put you six feet in the ground

So many here who love you
But still, you just can't tell
The real ones and those who drop your name

All the while behind your back
They lift the flesh right from your bones
You should know by now, we're all fair game

You've been chasing each dream with whiskey
From here to Tokyo
Usin' up all your real friends
Places left to go

It's the high cost of low livin'
Ain't it high time, you turn yourself around?
Yeah, the high cost of low livin'
Is bound to put you six feet in the ground

Don't look behind you
Ahh, don't look back
Don't try to find reason in the past
Past is gone, gone at last

It's high cost of low livin'
It's high time you turn yourself around
Well, the high cost of low livin'
Is bound to put you six feet in the ground

What talent. It has made me reflect on the high costs of my low living. Also, unmatched musical talent.

  2. A.... A....

Every word more truthful than the next you're living with yourself a lot longer than anyone else

  3. A.... R....

Ha, we're all just along for the ride !

  4. E.... N....

LMAO! Low livin' cost too damn much.

  5. R.... S....

This song really hits home with me because I was somebody that struggle with addiction for many years I can proudly say that I've been clean for 8 years

  6. J.... W....

This song was tampered with. Its my song that some people smudged the recording. It sounds much better without them.

  7. G.... S....

Thanks again for all the great music

  8. b.... t....

wow... starts out slow, but stay with it... Guitar work in last 3 minutes is incredible!

  9. A.... G....

    Warren game changer.

  10. e.... v....

wow thats what I call souls music

  11. E.... B....

One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever near, including the guitar work, which was some of the most tasteful I’ve ever heard.

  12. A.... L....

Derek Trucks is from right speaker ?

    A.... L....

    Warren's solo @ 2:56, Derek's @ 4:15 heard from my left speaker.

  13. C.... M....

Fell in love with the group in 1976 when I sat down and really listened to Wipe the windows, Check the oil, Dollar gas. I had heard of them before but being 23 and living in Army barracks gives you lots of time music, especially if you are in Germany. Hooked ever since.

  14. M.... Z....

I can't be south of the Mason/Dixon line without conjuring up visions and memories of ABB...  Warren and every damn brothers fan regrets not doing one last recording before it all ended.

  15. J.... G....

Derek and Warren are 2 of the best guitars the brothers ever had!! :)

  16. M.... T....

This song literally made me quit substance abuse. Clean going on 4 years & don't miss it one bit.

    j.... ....

    Good job Jon!!

    j.... ....

We all have our cross to bear, man.
I love and respect how much courage you had to kick it.
Some are not so lucky and they let the junk take over.
They leave their families with an emptiness that just never gets filled.
It hits you when you least expect it.

    It is a horrible life.
Who can say who has it worse?
The poor soul afflicted with the addiction or the family who sees their loved one losing to some junk?

    j.... ....

Good job. It seems like everyone needs something to get through the day. But if you made it to the other side stay on that path

    j.... ....

    Good for you!

    j.... ....

Stellar tune from this lineup, and the start of a creative period that carried them back to heights that had eluded them in the late 90s...

  24. J.... E....

Your own mind must be the last stop for what is right ,find your integrity in a mirror ,making YOUR OWN Peace is living,to many fear their own actions, maybe is why we are reluctant to face them. Perfection is not the answer, living in your own skin is. YOUR soul ,YOUR aura is all you have, Having folks know I was not an a##hole is a comforting testimony. 29. S.... ....

This song somehow reminds me of the blues clues show for some reason.

    S.... ....

    what? lolz

    S.... ....

    No more acid for you.

  30. g.... s....

A musician's life. Dickey Betts are you listening to this song!

    g.... s....

David Kramer Dave they all were fucked up then-- just as we were at that age-- what's important now is for them to get back together while they are still alive--not a band that has had a lot of luck in that department

    g.... s....

gregory smith but you know, blue sky, revival, seven turns, rambling man-all were great songs--truth is alcohol and drugs got in the way of both of them. In my opinion, the band was at it's peak when they were all together--- it's just too bad really

    g.... s....

I know I wrote this longer than a week ago--only to be seriously dejected

    g.... s....

Mark Garno Your entitled to your opinion but you don't know there are three sides to the story why Betts got fired. As far as Betts sucks you got alot to learn.

    g.... s....

Mark Garno Dickey Betts is a legend and always will be. Get over it dude. I dont see your name anywhere.

  31. g.... s....

I could swear Gregg Allman is talking about himself!

    g.... s....

    no shit

    g.... s....
