Alice Cooper - Serious Lyrics
[Alice Cooper / Bernie Taupin / David Foster / Steve Lukather]
When I look back at my time at the track
And I played and I played and I played and I was
Shooting the craps at the back of Fat Jack's
I'm a Las Vegas dreamer they took to the cleaners
A bath what a bath what a bath I'd take
A fish on a hook I was rattled and shook 'cause I lost my stake
I took that serious
All of my life was a laugh and a joke
And a drink and a smoke
And then I passed out on the floor
Again and again and again and again and again
Wanna play wanna play wanna play with me
Put my ass on the line rubbed my nose in the grime
And they picked me clean
The chance and the game drove Old Silkly insane
What a pain what a strain on my brain it was
A fish on a hook I was rattled and shook 'cause I lost my stake
I took that serious
All of my life was a laugh and a joke
And a drink and a smoke
And then I passed out on the floor
Again and again and again and again and again
Serious it was serious oh so serious
Serious it was serious oh so serious
All of my life was a laugh and a joke
And a drink and a smoke
And then I passed out on the floor
Or a friend
Again and again and again and again and again
All of my life was a laugh and a joke
And a drink and a smoke
And then I passed out on the floor
Or a friend
Again and again and again and again and again and again
And again and again and again and again and again
And again and again

Alice Cooper Serious Comments
Best song in the whole world ever, even better than "Andy Griffith Gets Spastic on Acid" which is pretty good really.
I take it all seriously.
Too bad most people don't.
I am not talking about alcohol or addiction.
This is like going on an Easter Egg Hunt, and stumbling into Wonky Willy's Chocolate Factory on Free Extras Day, #Alicecooper! Serious! I get to be an Extra in a J.D. film, for nothing! Where's my Hershey bar, man? And Bernie Taupin? Like, Your Song Bernie Taupin? (#ladygaga taught me that. To tell you a Saxosecret, I prefer her version. Gutsier. SHUDPP!). But I thought Bernie Taupin was Elton John's long lost lover, from the way that song is written, like, so personal, which one is sitting on the roof in the rain? I always wonder, and I imagine Bernie to Eltie, 'I'd buy you a house where we could live', and with the gender change reference "If I were a woman, trading potions..". It's got bromance written all over their faces!
And now you place Bernie Taupin in the eye of a blokey, boozy, pool playing, fish hooking, arm wrestling, 'Alice Trashcrashes Elton John's Houseparty' storm, and Bernie's in stitches on the floor with yas, eyes as red as yours are, on the album cover? That's seriously funny! My ignorance makes me laugh, anyhow. Again n again n again (Hey! Hey You! J.D.! Willy! Another round of Hersheys, por favor! This time with a Cosmopolitan and a joint for Bernie!) Cool song!
Rick Nielsen on guitar. Good song. Cheers!
It's Steve Lukather on guitar, who also co-wrote the song
this album is a gem, a clean Diamond!
Awesome song. I wore the hell out of this album when it came out. Easily in my top 10 rock albums of all time, and Alice Coopers best.
Another Alice essential album. A masterpiece. Takes me back...
I still can't believe they never made this album into a play or a movie
this was his very best album !
Great album.

Come on, fade me, Jake

I took that serious
All of my life was a laugh and a joke
And a drink and a smoke
And then I passed out on the floor
Again and again, and again, and again, and again
I'm a gambling fool with a roll and cue
Want to play? Want to play? Want to play with me?
Put my ass on the line, rubbed my nose in the grime

Been there, Alice. Been there.
I found this album during the time I first started going to AA; this album is very dear to me.
This sounds a lot like Cheap Trick's "Hello There" which was from the same year.
OVI-Wan Kenobi I’m not the only one who thought the same thing! Rick Nielsen supposedly plays on this track.
LOVE this album! One of the secret gems of rock.
have you heard the lost track ???
@Michael Larkin "No Tricks"! Had it on the b-side of HYGSMN! It has reappeared on YouTube, although the audio isn't the best. I need to upload the version I have on the boxed set. Great tune!
great get it uploaded ….
Guhhh! THIS SONG! Shame on me for ignoring this era for so long.
I still have the bootleg Comic Book to this LP. It was a rarity when this album sold in '78.
at a bonfire, went out to the wooded area to piss, while-looked straight up at the staRs, this song came to mind, looking at the star (s) named Sirius; said "I took that Sirius"
......(the piss), then saw a ...............well,.............................
Sounds like Motley Crew and 80s metal bands got an easy copy cat vibe from this
Happy Birthday, master!
this song is probably the best song on the album...wish he would play it live in concert...this is probably Alice's best solo album
Jeff Gibbs he's playing it on his current tour
Was surprised to see he played this when I saw him last week.
Just saw Alice Wednesday, and he played this nugget! :)
Hell Yeah...Cooper Rocks...Played this in Greensville SC on Monday Night March 26th ...EXCELLENT CONCERT MAN.
View Jim Powers vid of this song from the fm kirby center in march . I was there ...,blew me away ! The Coop still kicks ass.

Anyone notice this sounds like "On the Air" by Peter Gabriel?
Umm..NO.
I love sloppy second's cover of this song.
Hell yes
Know what?!? I can't thank Mr. Vince and Bernie Taupin, enough, for this perfectly written, under-estmated Masterpiece. I believe that when they wrote this one, that anyone can relate to it. Nothing can top it. I loved this song for ages and I always will.
Well, I'll add a comment. This song rocks!!! Love the song and hearing Steve Lukather play the guitar on this is just icing on a great cake!
Aaron Wise Love u, Arron!
My Brother still owns the Comic Book to this very LP album. I own a 2nd-hand copy of this LP. What a SERIOUS treasure!!!!!!!!
Aaron, I meant
Derek Pratte I hear a lot of Cheap Trick guitar licks So much so almost wanna hear Robin Sanders sing
Dudes, Luke not only played it, he wrote it! With Bernie's lyrics, of course.
