Alice Cooper - Cleanced By Fire Lyrics
I don't know but I've been told
The streets of hell are paved with gold
Crazy, crazy
You told me that nothing's free
Except my own insanity
Wake me, shake me
Wake me, shake me
You offer me the world and all its wealth
All for myself
You promised me a life eternally
And drink to my health
I may seem only half-glued
But I can see right through you
Burn it up, burn it down
Burn this sucker to the ground
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Going, going, going, gone
There's a party going on
Do you think I don't know who you are
A fallen star
When I feel my soul scream out at night
I know you're not far
You need a better disguise
This one won't win any prize
[CHORUS]
Cleansed by fire, cleansed by fire
I may seem only half-glued
But I can see right through you
What about dark
What about light
What about wrong
What about right
What about death
What about sin
What about the web you're trying to spin
What about truth
What about life
What about glory
What about Christ
What about peace
What about love
What about faith in God above
What about war
What about hell
What if I stumble
What if I fell
What about blood
What about greed
And all of these things you're offering me
Yeah, what about me, little me
You lose and I win
You couldn't suck me in
It's over, you have no power
You're lost
And I'm found
And I'm Heaven bound
Go back to where you belong
To where you fell
Go to hell

The cover is this song. Loved the comics.
Atheist who also loves this song and thinks this album is his best work.
Alice is speaking to you to turn to Christ. Not religion, not false hopes, But Christ Jesus. Put your trust in him and you will have life eternal!
I hope everyone noticed The Curator (Vincent Price) laughing near the end. Steven....
Does anyone know what he says at 6:07 ? I ask myself since 1994.
I'm not sure. Maybe it's "You are mine". ? It is so distorted.
@Brianna Dixon Thank you very much! I've never heard that but I think that makes sense.
Cheers to Notre Dame Cathedral !
Bob Mello was thinking exactly the same thing. Wonder what happened there in France.
I remember listening to it on 1994 and playing it every day. Still do! Love this album!
as a Christian I find that we are cleansed by fire in tribulation we often bring upon ourselves.
Whoa......deeeeeeeeeeeep!
AWESOME SONG !!!!
This is gospel to my ears. This album is one of his best. Alice is not the devil, he mocks the devil. The devil hates this music...
On the contrary, El Diablo thinks this album is great - why would he not?
have you listened to it backwards?
@Kwinquark1 He likes "El Diablo" by ZZ Top
Listened to this album constantly back in the day, even still have the comic books in a box somewhere. Always thought the story would make a cool animated movie.
thought so as well
A fantastic meditation on self-transcendence.
Soy el único hispanohablante ? Saludos Alice ...

And then the song says "what about me?" That doesn't sound very Christian to me, sorry. I would say the track "It's me" could easily be about Jesus. Anyone else get that?
Once Alice realizes that, in spite of all the "great" things the devil has to offer, none of it is offered with Alice's best interest in mind. Alice sees that everything the devil has to offer is not life-giving, but rather leads to death both spiritual and physical. And so, "What about me!"-more of an exclamation than a question. It's a realization of the lies of the devil posing as promises. It's the moment of turning against the face of death toward the face of life in Christ seeing that only Christ can fill all the emptiness the heart feels- that only Christ can provide for the soul eternally.
"You've heard the music, now read the stories of The Last Temptation" in a three part comic book series written by The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman and drawn by Michael Zulli, .... ....essential companion pieces to this Alice Cooper Album" -- from the sleeve of the CD that I bought AFTER I had bought the Comic Books, being a Neil Gaiman Sandman fan, and later a fan of Gaiman's "American Gods" Novel.
Why this album and the Comic Books are not BIGGER than Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is a mystery to me, and so I ask you all to Read/Listen to both the Album and the Book to experience something really special.
I should add, up until hearing this album, I did NOT like Alice Cooper.... I was WRONG. The band is as good as my all time faves, The Beatles.
Praise the Lord!
Hallelujah
The whole album is done in conjunction with Neil Gaiman and his superb Graphic novel of the same name....the music matches the storyline..exactly. Superb stuff...(I am an Atheist)).
By far, the most tuneful song in the album, a very suitable climax to the story...." you offer me the World all for myself"....and ... "I may seem only half-clued, but I can see through YOU".... WHAT a song. (Memo to self - MUST learn the words to chant to myself every day, to see through the lies around me....).
My first time listening to this song and heck yeah nice song . Now I'm really interested in listening to the whole album 🖤
Oh! So much power in this. The lyrics gave me chills. So much truth. That last verse. YES!!!
Amen! <3
Now 🤔 some people like Alice-cooper🤔!!!!
Who are you, I need to know I see you all over Alice Cooper comment section I must know
Awesome tune! Just heard it for the first time...
This 🤔 world is fire till we die🤔!!!!
Who are you?
Great song off of one of my favorite Alice albums. Anyone who doesn't own The Last Temptation is missing out.
You said it!!! Yet the album is out of print and SO hard to find! Maybe we could start a campaign to put it back in print or something!
Alice Cooper 🤔,is a Christian and so 🤔 am I!!!
Scott O. Who are you, you have like 6 different accounts and use this 🤔 all the time, your all over the a c comment section. Who are you really Scott Oswald?
@Stacy Cuevas yer all nuts
you must be a blackbird..........
I'm an atheist and very happy with my life but I still love Alice😉
@daffers234 I'll share mine if you like. I was brought up Christian. Then I discovered Heavy Metal. My parents despised me for it. Reading LaVey's Satanic Bible confirmed I was right. Even though LaVey didn't like Heavy Metal himself. Tolerance, motherfucker. Christ-cultists PREACH it, but NEVER, EVER practice it, unless it's for themselves Anything they disagree with is full-on WRONG. Satanists tolerate anyone and anything that doesn't try to fuck with them. Anyone or thing that does, we DESTROY.
I,🤔love this song. It's like he's talking to the devil and yes I'm a Cristian too🤔!!!
He IS talking to the devil. If you listen to the album from beginning to end, it's a story of somebody who was tricked by the devil or some similar entity. This song represents his victory over evil. There is an earlier one called unholy war where he tries to fight back but loses. The song It's Me is basically God giving him strength to fight back and win, then you get this song.
Scott O. Who are you, you have like 6 different accounts and I find you all over the Alice comment section using this 🤔, who are you Scott Oswald?
three cheers......
@Cockroach Charlie This album is the continuation of the story of Steven who was introduced in the album "Welcome To My Nightmare and the album itself is a followup to Nightmare and "Alice Cooper Goes To Hell". There has been references to Steven on almost every Alice Cooper album since Nightmare and the story might have actually started on the album "Love it to Death" with "The Ballad of Dwight Frye"' . Its Me is actually a retelling of the Prodigal Son if you look at it closely.
@RowdyRodimus I'm sure there's a lot of that in there. Not sure when you figure in the graphic novels version of the story.
This sounds alot luke the Beatles, which were a big influence on Alice Cooper. I love it
We're... cleaned by fire🤔!!!
Who are you Scott Oswald, I’ve seen you all over the Alice Cooper comment section using this 🤔, and have like 8 different accounts

Great underrated album. Listening to whole thing for first time. Just got done with black out albums.
I had no idea he had one so obviously Christian, and it has become my favorite. I just wish it was easier to find a copy - my CD is all scratched and it skips!
Do...you get it Alice Cooper is telling the devil. You🤔couldn't suck me in!!!

Check Vincent AKA Alice's bio. His father was allegedly a preacher. I think that now that he is in his late 60s he is getting back to his religious roots.
His father was a pastor and his wife's dad is a pastor as well. Alice refound his faith many years ago and has been talking about that since the early 90's. To God Be the Glory!
I agree, God is to be glorified in this situation. I love his "prodigal son'" story. This album was the second he created after rededictating his life (in 1989? I think?) and it is my current fave album of his.
Michael Matheny he got back to his religious roots years ago I think 20 now
He had some religious referencs in various songs throughout his career (beginning with "Fields of Regret"). The song "My God" was probably the most forward in showing that he had belief... until this album, when he essentially came out of the "Christian closet".
a.k.a BUZZ. I'm surprised because I am a huge fan since 13yrs of age, today i' m 51. Anyway the last album by this man that I cherished was " FROM THE INSIDE" I also really liked " FLUSH THE FASHION" But my all time favorite is " KILLER" then it would be " LOVE IT TO DEATH" This is the first time listening to this, just getting more use to it & I'm diggin' it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is probably the most blatantly-Christian of his albums so far, and I love the messages. It has a definite 1990s feel (having been released in 1994), but that's the kind of music I grew up with so I like it anyway. Glad there are other fans :)
Just discovered this album, love it to pieces. I plan to buy it when I get money (hey, why not support a fellow Christian?) Until then, I will be listening to this online about a zillion times.
Alice takes the bible literally according to the interview.
@Dennis Bayle my Sony still works with tape on the battery compartment.
why not steal the money.....?
I played this album on the Christian station I was on many years ago.
Many great songs.
@Adam Safranek I got this the day it was released, it came with the first issue of the comic. I worked at a comic shop at the time (I had pretty much just graduated High School and did the comic shop thing to basically get my comics for free during college. I paid what the owner paid, which was half cover price and so with my salary and dicount, I basically ended up getting almost all of Marvel, DC and a few Image books for free with enough left over for gas lol) But because I worked there I was able to see Diamond;s dealers catalog and order from it. Well, I was looking through the discount/clearance catalog and found the full set signed by Alice and Neil Gaiman for about $10 I ordered that and the signed full set of The Infinity Gauntlet and ended up paying less than $20 for both sets. After the Avengers Infinity War movie came out, I sold the Infinity set for $250. My brother's friend knew I had it and offered so I was like, "Sure will{" lol
🎧🎃🎧I love Alice More than anyone :-(:-(:-(:-( my Friend. Through. life😇🎧🎃🎧
Love it!!
