Alanis Morissette - Plastic Lyrics

You got a plastic name and a plastic heart
You can play the game or you'll never start
I'm talkin' to you
You got a plastic house and a plastic fence
Gotta look around or you'll lose your friends
Am I gettin' through?

You got a plastic girl in a plastic bed
And she's in your house made of gingerbread
And you're in there too
Got a plastic smile on a plastic face
But it's underneath that you can't erase
But what can you do-do-do?

[CHORUS:]
Say Love-it's not that hard after all
(tell me what I want, what I wanna hear)
When everybody does
Say Love-it's gonna tear down the walls
(tell me what I want, what I wanna hear)
if everybody loves

You live in a plastic dream through a plastic card
But reality you don't disregard
You know that it's true
You got a plastic goal in a plastic life
Gotta search your soul gotta make it right
And here's what you do-do-do

[CHORUS]

Wake up in the morin'
Some are not sleepin' tight
A matter you've been ignorin'
Why can't you just say it?
Will not wait forever
Can't you see I'm right
I want you to endeavor
To tell me again and again!

[CHORUS]

Alanis Morissette Plastic Comments
  1. B.... L....

What the heck I've just watched XD

  2. C.... A....

Oh man! I thought this was porn. I just lost a bet with my best friend over this. Oh well, how long do you think it would take him to slap me on the face five times anyway?

  3. B.... S....

    Alanis serving Robyn Sparkles realness.

  4. G.... C....

They were so desperate for footage for this video that they actually include a clip of her coughing at 1:07. This video is AWESOME!!!

  5. A.... B....

f*** the Canadians were really stuck in the 80s until at least the early/mid 1990s

  6. C.... F....

    i love you

  7. J.... K....

    the real Robin sparkles

  8. D.... R....

    Jaw Drop!

  9. W.... ....

Like Debbie Gibson, Alanis Morissette wrote her music. Not like Tiffany, who relied on outside songwriters.

At the time, I loved all three!

  10. M.... C....

    Black Box from Italy

  11. a.... ....

Man, I was 15 when this album came out, and had at the time this gigantic crush on Alanis, watching YTV's Hit List with my man, Tarzan Dan. 25 years since, she's still absolutely beautiful. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  12. k.... h....

Why do you name this station , "
Stuck in the past?" Alanis is very progressive.

  13. M.... T....

    This is Alanis Morissette?

  14. i.... d....

This might be cheesy... VERY cheesy, in fact. But if I'm completely honest I've heard far worse. For what it is, this isn't bad.

  15. E.... D....

    this.is.amazing.

  16. Z.... T....

    0:12-0:13

That one arm movement is just so perfect with the music!

  17. J.... R....

    I loved this album.

  18. R.... ....

This was on YTV's Hitlist in 1991

  19. S.... C....

    here because Matt LeBlanc.Grandee

  20. a.... ....

    0:33 and 0:44 too :)

  21. R.... ....

Alanis: I think I'm in love with you.
Matt: Sorry, I just got offered to star in a new hit NBC show, minus you.
Alanis: You just became my Jagged Little Pill. How dare you!

  22. L.... W....

Not a chance. Maverick probably has the rights to the masters, and there's no way they'd let this get out. If they could buy up and destroy all the existing copies of "Alanis" and "Now is the Time," they would. Not to mention Alanis herself isn't that hot on them; she's said she has no desire to go back because she claims JLP and everything forward really represents her as an artist.

  23. o.... ....

This classic Can-con pop; one derivative sample after another, trying to imitate the music coming out of the USA or Europe but with an 18-month lag. Robin Sparkles was real.

  24. K.... ....

XDXDXD it's so weird that it's the same person that sings Jagged Little Pill XDXDXD

  25. a.... ....

She went from this, to being damaged, and ended up being God in the Askew Universe!

  26. m.... ....

Lol, is it bad that I kinda like her early songs, they do have something to say although not as eloquently stated and less artistic, still the songs, for what they are (pop songs) are quite good..... oh and "Let's go to the Maaaaaaall!"

  27. m.... ....

I love the artist-rocker Alanis but this song is too catchy and the video is too funny, I cannot hate...

  28. k.... ....

jep, exactly - now i understand the meaning of all that Canadian Pop Star stuff from HiMYM ;) Quiet unbelievable ^^

  29. B.... A....

Never compare Alanis to Mariah Carey. Alanis can sing!

  30. M.... ....

Alanis probably bought them all up so no one would hear them.

  31. a.... a....

NOT in a fashion sense. 90s fashion started in 1992

  32. S.... ....

Sounds like a crossbetween late 80's Kim Wilde and early 80's Depeche Mode.

  33. c.... ....

    2:32 Matt LeBlanc from Friends

  34. r.... ....

Let's all go to the mall!

  35. y.... ....

Wow! She looks exactly like a younger version of Julia Roberts at 55 sec. in this video. I love that outfit she is wearing too. For some reason what she looks like and what she is wearing reminds me of the movie, Pretty Woman. :) I love her hairstyle here. I wonder why she didn't keep it. Not saying she isn't pretty or anything. It is just I think she looks a lot better with this hairstyle than her recent one.

  36. m.... ....

@mattgosens she really is an artist, sweetie...but most artists have to be more commercial and less genuine when they want to make money. Her 'real' stuff is what no one buys. No comment on the anthem :)

  37. T.... ....

LOL she had the opposite career of mariah carey. started out a floozy, came out a dream.

  38. E.... ....

Wow how freaking retro can you get?

  39. C.... ....

Early 90s / late 80s were THE BEST

  40. y.... ....

@mattgosens this was a long time ago but I disagree. Jagged Little pill appealed to the post grunge crowd- the four albums after that? I didn't see morissette grasping for the style of the day rather I saw her create it ushering in the likes of other female artist to the forefront. This accusation just gets old when Alanis hasn't been the top of the charts for ever or has seemed to care for that matter. I agree not a fan of her national anthem.

  41. k.... ....

    She's totally Janet-esque

  42. S.... C....

I prefer the old Alanis Morrisette over the new Alanis Morrisette.

  43. h.... ....

@mattgosens exactly! Alanis' thought process for Jagged Little Pill: "Hey, grunge is in, why not put some grease in my hair and get mad?" I don't know how Alanis has a following, and none of my friends who bought Jagged Little Pill as angstful teenage girls still listen to it. I haven't heard 'You ought to know' on the radio in years and that's a wonderful thing.

  44. G.... ....

this was before she changed her style 180 degress and turned grunge right?

  45. o.... ....

    I wish she'd re-release this song

  46. b.... ....

@mattgosens this is the most absurd comment ever about alanis..any alanis fan knows she follows her own guidelines and rules..each album is so far away from the current popular music of the time..its too clear she's never followed after any normal way of writing or releasing/promoting an album or trying to give into expectations to become more popular..so she had a teenage career that was very bubblegum pop, but do we all stay the person we were at the age of 15?

  47. C.... M....

    0:59
Alanis.. is DANCING.. surrounded by some SHIRTLESS BOYS...and she's RUBBING on them...

    ok. Breathe normally.

  48. L.... ....

@vio2112 I guess it's still one of her dreams, but we still love her anyway!!! :D

  49. m.... ....

Make no mistake. Everything she has ever done has been just as commercial and calculated for the time period as this was. Just different styles to capitalize on the better selling styles of the day. Brilliant business woman, but no artist.
07 Stanley cup Playoffs - worst national anthem performance ever.

  50. b.... ....

    Alanis played God in Dogma!

  51. D.... ....

I've heard that exact same line in a Schwarzenegger movie.

    Was that coincidence or intentional?

  52. D.... ....

She's been in a few movies. No major parts as far as I know, though.

  53. D.... ....

Alanis can be anything she wants to be.

  54. S.... ....

Is it Matt Leblanc at 0:43? I prefer the second Alanis. This pop crap is too mainstream...!!!

  55. c.... ....

It's because the video has edited clips of her previous videos for "Walk Away", "Feel Your Love" and "Too Hot". But, there seems to be candid footage too (the shot of her dancing in a fountain in the swimsuit).

  56. m.... ....

I was just about to say the same thing!! It does sound like Black Box's "Everybody everybody (the original mix)"

  57. g.... ....

Love it! I never heard this before!

  58. g.... ....

Hahahaha. I guess geometry wasn't a strength in high school!

  59. g.... ....

I think I like her better like this... less 'emotional and deep' and more 'fun-loving'.

  60. B.... S....

um, the 90's started in 1990...

  61. j.... c....

LOL, did you mean 180 degrees? if she turned 360 degrees, then she ended up exactly the same as before.

  62. a.... ....

Geez, hidden under all that early 90's frizz and "fashion" was a smoking hot young Alanis!

  63. M.... M....

    Classic! Love it!

  64. s.... ....

This is probably the best song Alanis has ever produced. Way better than anything she has produced lately. If she rereleased this right now I'm sure it would rocket to the top of the charts... hell, it couldn't do any worse than recent singles! C'mon Alanis, forget the emo rock CRAP and bring sexy back!

  65. d.... ....

Shit sounds like Everybody Everybody from Black Box.

    Good track though.

  66. b.... ....

c Alanis mais c pas Alanis, en tout cas si j'avais entendu que ça d'elle , je ne serais jamais devenu fan

  67. E.... S....

I am a huge fan of Alanis, but we Americans did not know of her until Jagged Little Pill.....and I love all she does, but this is not among my favorites of her early stuff, the lyrics are cheesy....not the worst song but not a fave

  68. n.... ....

well, perhaps cause it's a pure commercial, formatted song with no real feeling in !
Her actuals songs are feeling full, sounding real, not "formatted", just see how many albumsshe sells by now !

  69. D.... ....

I have a crush on a version of Alanis that no longer exists. It's sad, really.

  70. D.... ....

Truth is, she was suffering from eating disorders around this time in her life.

  71. f.... ....

hahaha its good to know even alanis had a dodgy pop past... and managed to pull it off! :D

  72. M.... ....

    Matt Le Blanc!!

  73. L.... ....

This is to funny, she looks like a cross between early Mariah Carey mixed with Amy Grant.

  74. A.... ....

I didn't know she was '80.s, this is waaaaay better than anything she does now and here she looks like a woman! Damn, why did she turn 360 degrees? Why do people do that??

  75. V.... ....

MikePYaDig, this song was actually in 91. I'm just a tad OCD, sorry.

  76. c.... ....

A 360 degree turn would mean she would've put herself back in the same place. Isn't it ironic??

  77. G.... ....

Now she looks like a skinny malnourished vegan who is in a good need of a steak.

  78. o.... ....

She sounds so different now, but her older songs still rock

  79. c.... ....

yeah see the Walk Away video...

  80. y.... ....

not really. Have you seen the "Underneath" Video? She looks better now.

  81. v.... ....

at :44, appears to be matthew leblanc from friends....

  82. n.... ....

I love this song. A bit quirky but fun!!

  83. D.... ....

Damn, Alanis looked so much better back then.

  84. E.... ....

Yes - she had a career as 'Alanis' and previous to that she was on a Canadian children's tv show called 'You can't do that on television'.

  85. L.... ....

Not to get all philosophical and what not but I like this song. The lyrics sorta showed that her record company tried 2 put her in this "plastic" mold of a pop star.

  86. T.... ....

me and my cousin little D train use to dance to this

  87. F.... ....

    TOTALLY AGREE

  88. E.... S....

I have a feeling this was not a real single...sounds like something MCA Canada put out because she may have owed them one more single ( because all this videos is a recycle of previous videos )

  89. C.... ....

    90's not 80's

  90. C.... ....

    90's not 80's

  91. B.... S....

well, this is what was cool in the early nineties. anyone her age will tell you

  92. F.... G....

she was selling sex so young! no wonder she freaked out and made JLP a few years later..this was totally degrading. i mean she is dancing half naked in a pool like Sabrina for "Boys" lol.

  93. C.... ....

lol well she is sexy and this was like when she was 17 18 i mean its porbley odd but alot of singers show more then she did at this time i still love it though

  94. C.... ....

well she was naked in her video for thank you so yea lol

  95. C.... ....

but its simaler in a way with useing a bunch of clips
