Alan Parsons Project, The - Dancing On A High Wire Lyrics
We're living in a different reality
We're toeing the same line
We give in we call it neutrality,
A joke with no punchline
The silver plated hero
The odds'll give you zero,
She'll be leaving in a few days more
Movin' on forever, maybe she don't care
Holding on together, maybe it just ain't there
You're dancing on a high wire
You need to be so sure
There used to be a lifeline
There isn't anymore
We talk at the same time
We believe in freedom and charity
As long as I get mine
The ivory madonna is walking
Through the door
You watch her from a window,
It doesn't matter anymore
Moving on forever, maybe she don't care
Holding on together, maybe it just ain't there
You're dancing on a high wire
You need to be so sure
There used to be a lifeline
There isn't anymore

Very conceptual album I really don't get get the whole concept but I do get it enough to know that this record is full of killer fuckin music that was always before it's time but now to me it seems to fit perfectly in it time period
This my fuckin fave app song ever it don't get old
Too many ads
Brings back a great memory ... a short term beautiful/great boyfriend sang this song to me, what a voice! ❤️
Alan Parsons best song!
My favorite app song
Удивительно, сколько россиян слушают эту легенду:) Nazdarovia !!

Просто чумовая композиция , просто гений Алан Парсонс ...

🍃💜🍃💜🍃💜🍃💜🍃
When I bought the LP decades ago I was piss*d off because they cut the guitar solo at the ending, LOL
Soooo good!! 🎶"you're dancing on a hi-wire, you need to be so sure.. there used to be a life line.. there isn't anymore.. "🎶
Which other group comes close to the Alan Parsons project
ELO!!!!!!! :)
Electric Light Orchestra, maybe
crack the sky
Galaxy Gibraltar Frank Zappa. APP are less of an acquired taste, though.
None. No group is slightly close. Very original.
Agreed , tell me what else is your favourite
Great choice; I concur 100%. :-)
**ES PROLIJO ...COMO LA MAYORIA DE SUS TEMAS...TECNICA ELECTRONICA**
I have the CD of this recording released in 1984 I find the whole CD to be an excellent one
I used to have the album.
Ammonia Avenue is one of Parsons' most satisfying albums. If songs like this can be stuffed deep into the album with three successful singles, that speaks volumes.
The whole album Ammonia Avenue is fuckin 🔥
I've always wanted that outro guitar solo to last much longer than it actually does on the record.
It needs to be a minute anyways
I grew up listening to this song, love it!
This is the best song of all the ones he recorded with Alan Parsons--at least I think so.
Lyrics means much for me though I am not the English-speaking. Was on his concert in Moscow. Very talented person plus high-class command. Thanks for the new version of the song.
"We're living in a different reality
We're toeing the same line
We give in we call it neutrality,
A joke with no punchline
The silver plated hero
Meets the golden hearted whore
The odds'll give you zero,
She'll be leaving in a few days more
Movin' on forever, maybe she don't care
Holding on together, maybe it just ain't there"
Great stuff . . .
@Hugh Fathers
I absolutely agree with you.
Hugh Fathers when he sings "whore" he's doing it in a way that suggests he didn't like that word.
Hugh Fathers
We're living in duality...😚
La mejor y unica voz que tendria THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT.
Me es dificil encontrar sus videos de muchacho.
Colin Blunstone=Vocal
David Paton=Bass ;)
no that's wolfson
@manowardude1 It sounds as if Blunstone is back vocals
Awesome song. One of their best.
i like six songs from that album and those are - Prime Time, Don't Answer Me (Obviously), Dancing On A Highwire (other words this one...), You Don't Believe, Pipeline and Amonia Avenue (Obviously too...)! and to my likening - You Don't Believe is the best since its the most simple, but yet has the most memorable motive out of them all!...
nah...in my opinion best is - You Don't Believe...
great band great song
The whole album is great, i like every track.
I bought this album in early 1984. I love it since then, I hear it at least three or four times a week and always makes me feel so good and happy.
Long life APP.
His voice is perfect for the songs he does for APP.
This is the best song of all.
Ian Bairnson is a great guitar player.
Great song ...thanks for sharing it!
Thank you, the sound is great!
Loved this music in the "70's and still now love just as much 2012
I'm loving it just as much as i always have in 2018, truly a timeless song
@bassmanjoe Alan Parsons is the guy who produced Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon!!
He engineered it.
Obama's political strategy in song.
My boyfriend back then sang this to me, same voice! Incredible! Brings back great memories!
@Warhead3000 seriously the whole album concept (woolfson's idea) is about how the chemical industry might be misunderstood by the general public because of lack of scientific knowledge(how the public might veiw them) he had visited imperial chemical industries and saw miles of "pipeline" and a street sign "ammonia ave"
@Warhead3000 concept is chemical industry "whore" is greedy industry
@punditpete
they were a pure studio band and the technolodgy musicly had not been invented to produce the project live eric and alan both knew that, when eric chose musical theater alan considered afterward live performances, eric was at the premiere in his familiar managerial role, but not part of the stage emsemble they eric and alan had different ideas about music then not only how it was staged but in expression, still they gave us a beautiful legacy didn't they.
this album is great!
Unos Genios,incomparebles -geniales.
@macaius
In the long run, quality stands out. APP was always about quality. Great and complex concepts, spot-on execution... If David Wayne hadn't got there first, I would bet Alan Parsons would have created WOTW about as good (we are talking ability, not heresy LOL)
(now that I say "was" does anyone know if he will put another one together?)
If I'm not wrong, it's a picture of the place in where the song "Ammonia Avenue" was inspired. The picture of a street in a factory or complex filled with pipes, and the picture has a mirror-like effect.
There's such an inspiration in this album...When I think to myself what is my favourite's APP album, I can only think at least seven or eight of his albums are really really great, it's amazing how far the good taste of them can go.
I LOVE this sooo much!!!
You're right. This is the best song on the album. Along with Steve Winwood and Peter Gabriel APP is what the '80's could've been.
this has always been my fav alan parsons song... amazing lyrics, amazing music!
You again !! Nice to hear from you. Seems you trod similar Moody Parsons etc traiils. Marvelous comment. Appreciating the deep ...but then, what Moody Blues fan wouodn't.?
Tom in Utica NY
what is that a picture of?
Eric Woolfson visited Imperial Chemical Industries and saw a whole plethora of pipes and buildings with no trees or people to see. A sign where the ammonia was made said "Ammonia Avenue", which prompted the theme of people not understanding or fearing technology. My assumption is this photo is of one of those structures.
this is my favorite song..
Bluntstone is my fave vocalist in APP, along with Woolfson himself of course.
whole concept of album was to comment on the
way the chemical industry views/treats the public
and vice versa
the "high wire" is the limits the industry has gone
to and the situation we live with (safety etc.)
I'm torn between this one and Dont Answer Me for best song.. Dont Answer Me gives a very nice nostalgic (Wall of Sound) sound, while the lyrics od Highwire are comfortably deep. I have a sentimental fix on this album as it was my very first APP album.. and yes.. in Vinyl.. lol Love the whole album!
Hei, you forget Lenny Zakatek, Eric Woolfson and Chris Rainbow! They are great, too!!
I used to love these guys as a kid growing up. I would have loved to have caught them live but they never seemed to tour. In fact they always seemed a bit a bit off the radar and never seemed to plug themselfs.
I agree. They are so good and so far above anything that's around these days.
Outstanding! Thank you for posting this.
