Alan Parsons Project, The - Damned If I Do Lyrics
I ain't got a heart of stone
I'm hurtin' more than I've ever kown
If you mean the things you said
I'm gonna wind up outa my head
Can't sleep alone at night
Damned if I do
I'm damned if I don't but love you
I don't wanna tie you down
Don't need a reason to have you around
But each time you walk away
Don't be surprised if I ask you to stay
Can't sleep alone at night
I just can't seem to get it right
Damned if I do
I said I'm damned if I do
I'm damned if I don't cause love you
I ain't got a heart of stone
You haven't left me a mind of my own
But it's such a hold on me
I don't think I could ever be free
How can I survive
I'm fighting to keep myself alive
I'm damned if I do
Damned if I don't but love you
Can't seem to see the light
I've done everything but I can't get it right
Damned if I do
Damned if I don't but love you

Alan Parsons Project, The Damned If I Do Comments
Thank You for the Upload :) QC
Love this, such memories! Rock on
Again, brings me back to the day. Nuff said. GPM-53 / USAF-76-99.
Listening to this at work at 3 A. M. an now have to put this LP on the turntable when I get home.
This song is unstoppable march of love. The Force that will prevail!
Lenny has an awsome voice this is one of the greatest Lenny sang & AL Parsons musical instrumentsmake it come alive
Story of my Life. I've learned, I wish I've learned years before! This should be taught in school :(
Great song. I like the lady on the left. I think the one on the right would beat me up.
There is a third lady on the back of the cover
Lenny Zacatec had a great voice. I wonder what ever became of him,I am surprised he is not more well-known. APP is awesome!
Really shows the talent of this terrific group.
Just imagine him at the engineering board for pink Floyd dark side of the moon.
Alan Parsons Project
"Damned I Do"
#27, 1979.
I like haunting suspense music in minor key!!!
1979 was a great year for music!
Truly amazing music. Alan Parsons Project, one of my favorites rock bands. And this album is one my favorite (3rd), only behind Eye in the Sky (2nd) and Pyramid (1st)
Out of all the remakes, remixes or covers I think this is one of the only songs untouched which is good. It’s such a great song that reflects a trying period in one’s life.
I recall cruising thru Bluebird Canyon in Laguna Beach listening to The EVE 8 track and Dammed if I Do always got me singing.
Aldo Nova's Fantasy is nearly note for note the section at the end of the song...This song and Jane ...coincidence?
Me encanta ésta canción
I love the voice of Lenny Zaketek!. He is the singer that I like on my favorite Alan Parsons Project songs like "Games People Play" and Wouldn't Want To Be Like You". Such a great voice!
With Lenny Zakatek (voc), one of my first APP-Favourites. I hear it by RIAS Berlin in 1979. Its a fantastic song!
For Trudy...😙
One element I LOVE about Alan Parson's compositions is how he manages to *weave* his songs...No matter where you start from, they are in the "Thread of life." They. Just. Work. Besides loving lyrics people can relate to, multilayered compositions.
How many times have I sang in the car or house to this song? Beyond counting ...
it's catchy. with great lyrics.
Damned if I thumbs up, damned if I thumbs down
Where is people's taste in good music? After 12 years only 542,863 views?!
https://youtu.be/EmkHW7SgcZQ
Does anybody know the significance of the two women on the cover? Why are they dressed the way they are?
This is one of my favorites so I've watched it dozens of times. The one on the left is vulnerable, therefore attractive. The one on the right is severe, serious. They're dressed the same, it appears, but they way different.
I mean, imagine for a moment you’ve been invited into the control booth by AP. He plays this track for you and asks you what you think, hoping you’ll have some constructive criticism to offer. Talk about a moment of silence! You’ve just listened to perfection.
Chances are, you'll get sacrificed on an alter to S-A-T-A-N in the Temple Room. 😁
Para mi otro gran himno del rock
Alan Parsons engineered the dark side of the Moon and it was great too.
A masterpiece
fantastic group
does the vocal sound a bit Sir Cliff circa Wired.
I am 23 years old, and this is the music of my adolescence
Азиза Печорина
No, actually it’s not, but you’re welcomed into the fraternity of fans all the same.
Congratulations young
Who are the 48 deranged people who dont like this song?
Michelle Heath
Well, consider it this way : if they voted the song down they are equally damned as if they voted it up.
OMG my sister had this album
Brilliant song and LP the second best album
Alan Parsons project made such smooth and accomplished music. Another wonderful song.
Ian is a very overlooked guitarist, he's like David Gilmour on steroids. Much more well rounded player as well.
I dunno, that Gilmour dude is a good player. I appreciate where you're coming from though.
They played in New Mexico once. Maybe Texas
Thx man :-)
APP always had great guitar solos.
Vince Ward
Now that you mention it, yes, I believe you’re right!
Excellent album in my collection, thanks for vid
Una gran bandota!!!!! Lo mejor en buena música!!!!
Fantastic studio band.
This is my favorite song by this amazing group :)

Excellent!!! Can’t stop playing it over + over- “damned if I do”!!!
Suzanne Maria Stewart
This band kick ass !!! ..
What a song
Sounds like a coke snorting song
Listen to the ending repetition here, then to Aldo Nova's "Fantasy." It may not have begun as a coke snorting song, but part of it became one.
Damned if I do, damned if I don't... but I love you.
Women wearing veils on the album cover?. WTF ?. Tried to sneak it in as a fashion statement in 1982 and it never took hold. If men won't do it, there's the trigger right there. Can't believe Alan took it on as an album cover.
If you look close at the faces under the veils, they are covered with sores. The common woman, lovely to look at but not so skin deep?????
Brad: They are not covered in sores, it's the fabric... smh. Don't try and read into things that aren't actually there, Religion does that on your behalf. Look at the pic again and you will see the "sores" as you describe them also float in midair between the female models, that's because it's part of the cloth. Misogyny is a world Religion... Free yourself from it. It's not supposed to be a metaphor that demonises, dismisses and diminishes women as an anathema.
Veils = Islam= Misogyny. Ironic how most women make the connection and men don't, but choose to see things that weren't even there in the first place.
Dude, look at the left side of the woman on the right and the right side of the woman on the left. Their faces are, indeed, covered with sores.
Dear lord! Is it stupidity of self delusion? Either way, your inability to interpret the GLARINGLY OBVIOUS message of the album cover while pontificating about 'religion' does nothing for your credibility.
never of it but its ok
Alan is a Underrated Superstar ;
johnny rock
True enough, but not everybody can be David Bowie.
Life is a simulated reality
Just a very realistic simulation.
Played it for my wife and she loved it!
my sister sent me :)-

You have no idea.
you don't have any taste for real music then bub. get a life.
the world is missing a great author, go back and start writing your great gatsby, you're wasted on YT
Better then the shit today these dumb fucks nowadays have little talent
How many records have you sold, douche bag?
as always the intro is beyond compare.... I ROBOT
Saw these guys live for my 20th birthday last month. It was, needless to say, amazing.
if your just now getting to see them then you don't even have a clue. you was born a little to late. this band has been rockin a long time. i don't know what they've been up to for a minute but u missed all the great bands back in the 70's. never in any time period was there any better music than back in the 70's. there was more hits and more better music than in any time ever in music history. hopefully you'll get turned onto more of the greatest music ever produced. try i sum Emerson lake & palmer, Moody blues, the 1st 5 cd's of AC/DA with Bonn Scott and not brian johnson, the 1st 5 albums of aerosmith, the 1st 5 of Bad Company etc. i think you'll find way better music than anything produced today.
I was raised on the tunes of Kansas, Heart, Queen, and John Denver, and now I'm immersing myself in more alternative/progressive tunes. I will try those though, thank you!
Eva Waswo You were fortunate to catch Alan Parsons in his last days. Check out Iggy Pop albums The Idiot, Lust For Life and New Values, or Roky Erickson album The Evil One, Don't Slander Me, mid 70s David Bowie, all early pioneers of alt rock and the founders of modern rock via the fact they all were legends and extremely influential years before anyone realized it.
Yes, my dear, but about that other matter. You know, that business about sleeping alone at night...
On Air is my personal favorite album
Una de mis favoritas !!
Great album.
I was thinking - damned if I do- damned if I dont- .. So I did- and I do .. love you...

Wonderful, wonderful theme of my youth ...
Wonderful that, so sinister, dark and gloomy, now it´s lirycs so certainly apply to me ... Yes, "life copies art" ..
Maravilloso, maravilloso tema de mi juventud...
Maravilloso, que tan siniestra, lóbrega y sombría letra se aplique tan ciertamente a mí...Sí, "la vida copia al arte"...
One is damned if they don't like this song...I love the intro
It puts me in mind of the Atari ^__^; that awesome sound of electronica. I love the violin work as well, especially the descending slide of the violins before the start of the lyrics.
So much Parsons is as such. The Atari part certainly jives with its times (and yes there is something oddly addictive about the old school technical sounds of the 80's). They are more like rock and roll composers, like their sister band Pink Floyd (whom, as most know, Parsons did the sound engineering for Dark Side of the Moon, and it definitely shows in the pudding). So much of this music could be done by orchestra's, with light shows, and be really impressive. Too bad Parsons for the most part were a studio band, for they could have matched or even rivaled Floyd for light and sound shows (hard to say because I love the Floyd as well as Parsons). Hard to contain the Project to the mere walls of Abbey Road Studios I say. Eve is one of their best albums next to I Robot, with Lucifer being it's best track. That piece is really impressive.
Steve The Peeve I must agree, Steve. This album holds it's own against most of Floyd's better music. Love all of this era, but APP has a unique place in any serious 1970s audiophile collection.
If it wasn't for my dad, a true blood neo-audiophile, I'd have not known these bands. This man would use Floyd's "Careful With That Axe Eugene" on halloween night, with strobe lights and running to the door with blood on his face and a knife everytime the bell rang. The shriek in that song rather fits well for that theme, and always made the hair on my back stand on end LOL. Alot of my music collection now is from that time when I was a kid in the backseat of the car listening to this stuff. I thank my parents for introducing me to REAL music. I haven't followed the Billboard Top 40 since the 90's because of it.
voice of David paton?
Lenny Zakatek
great band
Been listening to Parsons Project since the 70's and cannot put a finger on which is my fav. I Robot, The Raven. Eve and a few others always wanted to see them in concert until I read about their background. So a wonderful band to listen to. Will always love them.
What about their background?
not quite as good as the Raven, but close
Best ever in the world
Love the long intros on APP songs
Yep, they're great and really set a mood, don't they?
Such a lovely masterpiece of genius work! Thanks for sharing some awesome memories. 😀

+bassmanjoe Eric Woolfson wrote some good lyrics
I agree! I loved this song when i first heard it 1979 when i was in 7th grade.
Me too. Got such a hold. Music and lyrics blended so well.
entered Billboard Sept 29, 1979 ..reached #27.
1979 was a great year. I turned 11 in september of that year. Tv was so much fun, listen to wgcl cleveland and wqal cleveland made life easy. Saturday cartoons was a large part of the weekends. In regards to alan parsons project, he is a very brilliant person. We need people like him today!
This...is music.
Is in this music the same feeling I have when see one project my about photovoltaic engineering read and work for my client..ty Alan for your perfect engineering!
Love this song...love the emotion of Lenny Zaketek's voice. I've seen him live on youtube and he's amazing.
+Lunaluck 10 I've been looking for a live performance of this song by Larry without any results. Could you guide me there?
@grace di rocco
Hi Grace... they didn't do many live shows, but there is a somewhat recent one. Not sure if you'll find the song you want, but just type in Alan Parsons Project Live, the song name and then type Larry ? on vocals. Sorry I can't help you much, but you might get a hit. I don't know who Larry is as they had so many performers and Lenny was my favourite except for the song, The Eagle Will Rise again where Colin Blunstones hauntingly beautiful voice is perfect for this poetic song. If you don't find it trying different wording...that's how I usually find what I want if it's here. Good Luck.
Many thanks.
Lunaluck 10
Mind blowing
"I ain't got a heart of stone ..... can't sleep alone at night ... I don't want to tie you down .... damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't cause I love you."
Damned if I do..damned if I dont...but I love this song!

My favorite is Time, but I like most of their songs a lot from 1979-1984.
