Where I live, in Ontario, Canada, same thing is happening. Many small towns near big cities are becoming regular cities- fields are being paved over for acres of subdivision and big box stores. I’m lucky cause where I live (about 2 hours from Toronto) almost every little town has a family run general store, hardware store, pharmacy, bakery and grocery store small enough to feel like family when you walk in.

I grew up on the Mississippi gulf coast and saw a multitude of changes in those 12 years. When I was 16, my Dad moved us up to central Miss. where he grew up.
In that small town, weekends were hopping. Sometimes on Saturdays, you had to make 2 or 3 "loops" to find a parking place to go in the department store to get Mom a spool of thread. Now there's only 4 stores open in all of downtown.

Lived in Newnan all my life. My uncle worked at Johnson Hardware for years and we would go in the old Lee King Drug store for a milkshake. Morgan’s Jewelry still here. Newnan is a beautiful town. I’m afraid way too many people moving in from all over may ruin it. A lot of history here.
