Al Stewart - Song On The Radio Lyrics
I was making my way through the wasteland
The road into town passes through
I was changing the radio stations
With my mind on you
Oh your friends call you "Lily Paloma"
It's too much of a gentle misnomer
For a shooting star
But you and me baby
I saw you there
Straight away I knew
There's really no hiding
I'll tell you right now
What we're gonna do
We'll go collecting the days
You're on my mind like a
Song on the Radio
I remember the first time I saw you
Alone in the dark with a drink
With a candle flame burning before you
And your thoughts closed in
You were staring out into the distance
Not seeming to hear what I said
Why did you put up such resistance
Like all the lights are red
'Cause you and me baby
I saw you there
Straight away I knew
There's really no hiding
I'll tell you right now
What we're gonna do
We'll go collecting the days
Putting the moments away
You're on my mind like a
Song on the Radio
I don't know what it was that was painful
But sometimes it's there in your face
There are times when you just look disdainful
Of the human race
Ah, but then on the wings of emotion
We circle each other in flight
Till together we roll like the ocean
In its bed at night
'Cause you and me baby
I saw you there
Straight away I knew
There's really no hiding
I'll tell you right now
What we're gonna do
We'll go collecting the days
Putting the moments away
You're on my mind like a
Song on the Radio
You're on my mind like a
Song on the Radio

Al Stewart Song On The Radio Comments
I feel smarter for having listen to this song
Take me back to my youth, beautiful song
THIS is another incredible YACHT ROCK selection
One of the local radio plays this and I can't get it out of my mind.....it's too good not to
Nothing better.
Al's last foray to top 40 radio ironically....;)
Can't believe that someone could be so blessed to write and perform music like this - absolutely fabulous....
A REAL SONG....Brilliant!!!!
thanks a lot.......
We'll go collecting the days...
Great song that needs to be on the radio more often
What a bass line! This is how it is done kiddies! Take notes! Lots of them, you're going to need them!
Songs like this makes me feel like I’m 24 again, priceless
Mr Clayton's homeroom, Francis Hopkinson Elementary, Philadelphia, PA, 19134, powerful memories.
Canción vieja pero con energía, y tiene sentido, aahh por favor siempre me cuadro
I love Al Stewart’s song writing . It’s so picturesque and poetically descriptive.❤️
Please get better Ron Wilhelm, there so many dances left....
Once in a while "middle of the road" song(s) is just what I need
The level of musical ssophistication is unmatched. Al Stewart is a genius.
Great song
A bit of an obscure Stewart tune
Not at all if you ever had a radio that only played FM or AM.
When the Jazz Man testifies!
✌🏼❤️
Clearly, an underappreciated great song by a clearly underappreciated pop music artist.
66 syphilitic drips disliked this song.
Great song you never hear on the radio anymore. :((
Saxofone, fantastico
My favorite Al Stewart song!
Many of Al's songs are 6+ minutes in a 3 min format world. Wish his songs were longer so I wouldn't have to keep hitting repeat.
Also, notice that noise moving through the song? Yeah its called MELODY!!! unlike the beat driven droning crap that artists vomit out today. It's all standardized, thoughtless molded format -steal your sample and regurgitate.
I read that the sax player "Kenzie", hit the highest note on the alto sax ever recorded on "Time Passages." It seems he goes off into his own little world when he solos.....like the other musicians just go idle and keep time to watch him.
What a fantastic song....the instrumental part in the middle just lifts you up. Adore the lyrics as well. One of my favorites.
What stupid shit reported Circumpunk's "Roads To Moscow" YouTube video? It's *history*. Gawd, some people are idiots.
Definitely takes me back, although it's nowhere near my favorite Al song. I still have the vinyl album. Al doesn't like the song much himself. I've seen him live about 30 times, and only once did he sing this (on the tour when the album came out), explaining that he wrote it specifically to prove he could write a song that was "commercial" enough to be played on the radio, and we may never hear it in a concert again. I never did. He has hundreds of songs that are more deserving to be played on the radio, but they never are.
Reminiscent of Jazzman by Carole King
Fabulosa canción
Great memories of when I was 3, listening to the record with my mom. 😊
i remember the first time i saw
I luv yer fuckin' site, dude.
That neon-light display is really cool, and I admire the way it subtly changes color without notice. Thanks for uploading this timeless piece.
4:30 Best lyrics I've ever heard!!
SUBSTANCE ......................... As opposed to today's Substance abuse.
Man this guy put out some great stuff! This one of my favorites! Rock On!
Can't beat Phil Kenzie on sax.
Such makes me think of twilight along I-90/94 as you drive southbound (i.e., towards Wisconsin Dells and Madison) through the ur-scrublands of desolation to be had heading out of Tomah, WI and continuing to about the Camp Douglas exit.
what a fantastic songster
Phil Kenzie, the best alto sax player ever.
Agreed. No one better.
This is flat out just a great tune!!! This song should have been a #1 hit all over the world! Al Stewart's voice is smooth and the guy on the sax can really wail and kick tail! Great tune!
Jammin!
high school days! :-)
Reminds me of Carole King's Jazzman, both songs epic.
The imagery created with these lyrics and the soulful sax is unmatched. Awesome composition.
What happened to superb songwriting "CRAFT" such as this???? Does it still exist from artists that are basically "underground" because Labels refuse to sign them and Corporate Radio refuses to play them????
The passages of time have killed quality control, complete sentences, real musical instruments, free thought and being able to vote for someone who, at the very least, hid the fact they may have been stupid and evil.
This song is always on my mind like a radio.
Another great one from the late 70’s!!
takes you back, some things to think about. ..
takes you back, some things to think about. ..
Love this song.
Nice song
I LOVE AL STEWART
LOVED him then and I've got a teenage daughter who's learning to LOVE him also! That's my girl. :)
Better than "Deacon Blues" by Steely Dan.
I remember this song and i keep on listening on it....
he sounded a little gay. but I love his songs
Like John Lennon
Your gay aswad
Sylvester is gay
Best sax I ever had!!!! Great memory evoking tune. Al Stewart is so smooth and jazzy sounding. I took a lot of crap in high school because I listened to him. Totally worth it.
The beginning chord progression reminds me of "How Long" by Ace. Dang I miss those days.
this and baker street...timeless sax
Man, got hooked on his music, by my buddy. Thank you Suds!
They rocked this one night and day on the local radio stations in Detroit city when it was new and it was well received by us Motown listeners for good reason, just listen to the perfect progression of the scale.
One of my favorites..Al mentions the word experiment which means a lot to chemists like me!
another winner by Al.
This song was a hit. It completely vanished from my mind not being an Al Stewart follower. I thought he was two hit wonder so it was a little weird hearing this song for the first time in over thirty years.
Geri, it is 40 years later and yes, you are still on my mind like a song on the radio.
still enjoying this song!
MY FAVORITE AL STEWART
There is a live version out there somewhere, even though Al apparently doesn't like to play it live. Worth a listen as well
Whenever i'm leaving the supermarket , leaving a shopping center, changing channels on my car radio...I always hear bits and pieces of this song...never the full version. Evidently, my timing is a bit off. I said 'enough of this'...and found it here. Thank you for posting.
A wonderful song I might add !
MeTV FM 87.7 in Chi Town plays this too !
that's because we got the one and only great Rick Odell programming
Execelent interpretation... ! one clasic of the Al Stewart
That sparse bass-driven rhythm is really groovy
that's how I thought of this tune.
Cool what a great way to spark a memory.
I'm not quite right right.........but he's a brother
He should be Knighted
Loyal to his realm and servant to the people
Another great song from Al Stewart.
Don't drive to this!!!!

AWESOME..........THANK YOU.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Exitos de una epoca de oro, cantantes y canciones que nunca olvidaremos ya que son parte nuestra
Best song of the Seventies.Incredible sax playing. You're the best,Phil Kenzie!
i like this song, but i was much too independent to follow 'the radio,' oops, lol
the saxophone on this song sounds like the one from Jazzman from Carol King
moparguy37 Yep!
some music as this song seems always to be fun to listen to. regardless how much time goes by. 😆
That saxophone player can really wail!!
Phil Kenzie should have been mentioned as one of the top ten sax players.... :-)
This takes me back to acid trips and car accidents without seat belts. And maybe some good coke too. And being an understudy for Jesus Christ Superstar sophomore year.
Hell yeah!
Scotland's own Al is now on the internet
Hell of a tune.......that sax......not much better than this!!
another one that takes me back to when i had hair.
Clever jason
Yeah, me too, and I'm female!
Yeah.....at least more hair on my head that anywhere else.
I was making my way through the wasteland

Love Love Love This Song !!
Who is 'Lily Paloma'
A 19th century French Florist
I don't know I thought it was maybe thinking of Jackson Browne who had a great song called Linda Paloma on the 1976 pretender album
