Al Jarreau - Tell Me What I Gotta Do Lyrics

Tell me what I gotta do

Everyday you're walkin' by
And I can see
How you shine
Here I am alone with nothin'
But a dream
That you are mine
Just exactly what I'll do
I don't know baby
But I gotta find
A way to reach you

Tell me what I gotta do
To get to your house
Tell me where I gotta go
To be with you
Tell me what I gotta say
To speak to your heart
Tell me what I need
To know tonight
So everything will be all right

Every night I wonder
Just how it would feel
Close to you
I imagine that this
Fantasy is real
You love me too
Got to get from here to there
Here and now baby
Open up your arms
And let me love you

Tell me what I gotta do
To get to your house
Tell me where I gotta go
To be with you
Tell me what I gotta say
To speak to your heart
Tell me what I need
To know tonight
So everything will be all right

Got to get from here to there
Here and now baby
Open up your arms
And let me love you

Tell me what I gotta do
To get to your house
Tell me where I gotta go
To be with you
Tell me what I gotta say
To speak to your heart
Tell me what I need
To know tonight
So everything will be all right

  15. M.... O....

There's an old saying that goes "if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen. I'm glad Al didn't stay out the kitchen. He walked in GunZ blazing , grabbed music by its neck n made it "his bitch "

  16. C.... R....

Jamming to this in June of 2019...RIP to a great voice..

  17. r.... c....

This tune really makes me feel alive every time I listen to it , its lighting in a song.

  18. C.... S....

Man! Awesome video with that California sunset ! It doesn't get any better than that. And boy, do I miss Al jarreau. I dont think that there will be another singer that can duplicate what hes done for years. This song is one of those songs that you put on while you light up the grill, get some cold ones , and you and your lady cook some good food, turn up the glass, and enjoy the rest of the day after a hard day at work. 😁

    C.... S....

He was an extremely rare soul. Sure other artists scatted along to jazz music, but Al came along at a time when the artform was really dead. Hell, people were and still are declaring jazz is dead. Fuck them. I could go on about Al's voice, his sincere yet fun demeanor, the basic tone of his voice- so fucking soothing. I mean thank you God for blessing us with the man and his talents but dam, waaay too soon for this legend to be gone.

At least we've got his catalog of albums to cherish.

And yeah love the shots of Century City and West L.A. from Sunset Blvd.

  19. S.... T....

This one was from my College repertoire.

  20. M.... M....

  25. D.... A....

    BADDDDDDDDDD mutha fukka

    D.... A....

    The baddest.

  26. s.... ....

Ah, so many wondrous sounds came outta that talented mouth. His scat recalls the great Ella Fitzgerald. No harsh sounds ever came out, Al defined the word "SMOOTH" ! This song doesn't sound dated, hard to believe it came out in 1986. A music gentleman who gave back to his craft, his legacy lives on.

  27. D.... A....

How on Gods Green Earth can anyone not love this song. Thank you Al for blessing us with your amazing God blessed talent

Here I go once again, work of 3 years continuing to accumulate, so today I decided its time to get to work eliminating all the legitimate reasons that if I was a dictator how better this world would be. Vote for me and I'll set you Free. Like hell, what's that got to do with the Late Legend Al Jarreau singing "Tell me what I got to Do", a damn good question to ask .I can't say for anyone else but for myself hearing this upbeat romantic work of artistic melody of the great one, interrupted my vindictive motivating thoughts of how to catchup and break even ,when its 5 years not mistakenly said hell FIVE YEARS. I just had to pay my Respect to Al Jarreau, thanks my Brother ,man that feeling YOU STILL GOT IT,in peace continue to rest.

  31. A.... S....

Ladies and Gents,I like to have your undivided attention please. if not there it is (the door)Fair warning nothing but Respect for our only guess I like to welcome with a gigantic hand applauding the INCOMPATIBLE late rip Al JARREAU and Mr. Jarreau going to tell us what she told him how to get into her heart.3 x backwards quickly what I just said anyone care to try on ur feet.I counted 17 fools Brother Al what u think, Al Jarreau said be nice let them stay for the show. IF that's it,AL LETS HEAR IT !!!!

  51. s.... b....

Played this cassette out, I was supposed to see him perform live back in the 80's and tickets were sold out. Who is the female guitarist because she has played with others, correct????!? I remember him doing this song live somewhere on TV and I thought there was a female drummer working that particular live version, not sure. Just remembered where my fascination came with drummers, my parents bought me drum set for Christmas when I was 6 or 7 years of age. I always wanted to be a drummer and play like Buddy Rich, he was the go to for my parents and he was always performing live sets on the Johnny Carson show. As a child watched alot of JC and had a father that always would talk about how BR was one of the best drummers out, just like his love for Stanley Clarke as one of best bassist. Loved his technique wanted to be the Female BR, but I wasn't the most disciplined person and preferred to play outside instead. Growing up didn't see alot of female drummers so when one would show up, my attention for the drummer went straight there, for dad it was the lead guitarist or the bassist, if I not mistaken Santana is married to a female drummer and she is African American, Sheila E was Prince's main drummer for the "LoveSexy Tour", she played a 15/20 minute drum solo at that show would knock your Sox's off, always been a fan of the E for that reason alone, this day I don't think the person I went to see LS concert knows why I made such a big deal out of her drum solo, I was up on feet, moving my head, the whole works was into it!!!!! To this day my direction will always hit the drummer, Phil Collins, the guy that played behind Al Green,John Bonham, Keith Moon etc.....

  52. A.... ....

I am fortunate enough to own an 89 MB 560 SEC. I bought it around y2k and have never sold it. This is one of those songs from the smooth jazz / Dave Grusin / Stanley Clark /Rippingtons / Spyro Gyra era, before Mr. Gorlick ruined it. Pop the roof, and give a listen. RIP Al. Some walk by night, some fly by day.....
