AFI - The Great Disappointment Lyrics

I can remember a place I used to go
Chrysanthemums of white, they seemed so beautiful
I can remember, I searched for the amaranth
I'd shut my eyes... to see

Oh, how I smiled then, so near the cherished ones
I knew they would appear... saw not a single one
Oh, how I smiled then, waiting so patiently
I'd make a wish... and bleed

While I waited I was wasting away
While I waited I was wasting away

I can remember... dreamt them so vividly
Soft creatures draped in white, light kisses gracing me
I can remember when I first realized
Dreams were the only place to see them

While I waited I was wasting away
While I waited I was wasting away
While I waited I was wasting away
Hope was wasting away
Faith was wasting away
I was wasting away

I never, never wanted this
I always wanted to believe
I never, never wanted this
How could I have become?
I never, never wanted this
But from the start I'd been deceived
I never, never wanted this
How could I have become?

I never, never wanted this
I always wanted to believe
I never, never wanted this
I never, never wanted this
But from the start I'd been deceived
I never, never wanted this

Inside a crumbling effigy
But you promised
So dies all innocence
But you promised me

While I waited I was wasting away
While I waited I was wasting away
While I waited I was wasting away
Hope was wasting away
Faith was wasting away
I was wasting away

It've been a time of growing up and a having become. Thanks the A FI for standing still, and for a voice, that what what a made a sensce that a wonder is right here.

Congrats. I wanted to do what they got to do myself. Before this album came out, I had already died and been reanimated. I understand your comment is about you and AFI. And how it helped you. Going through their lyrics, much sounds very abusive by them to me. Still. And I got their music as young person, too. Had enough own problems. Giving me a mic, stage and instruments, recording opportunities, etc. would have been the better decision. But they all feared I would critizise all these men and what they say and do and some women, too. I hate the way "The Leaving Song Part 2" was, what AFI became a little famous with in Germany. Motor Music, back then. Still would like to have the lyrics explained. Because it sounds like murder, still. And when not even the peacefull abuse victims allround musicians get to play and sing our own songs in Germany, why did such guys get to in their home country AND other countries. We approximately understand English. For whatever reasons have to learn it in school, while folks coming here mostly don't have to anything in German and haven't learnt it. Just to get some money. And more fame. This song here, "The Great Disappointment", is one I liked. But still I would have and would always prefer(ed) to do my own. And I can't really like when since my teens I have to think about how horrible and abusive also some AFI lyrics sound to me, never having received an explanation by who wrote it. When many young people should listen, because they totally needed to be popular, they should have a conversation with everyone they "reached", whether we wanted to be reached by them or not. Rage and hate could occur. Without their records popular, I wouldn't even feel like needing to take time and get this fucking conversation, because I wouldn't know lines like "I've seen it's birth, I watched it grow, I felt it change me. I took a life, I ate it slow, now it consumes me." An "it".

I remember these songs most clearly from high school and from my dreary train-rides. But good music stays good. One can always enjoy beauty, no matter how old the body becomes.
